One could make consumption taxes progressive too. And yes, the idea is to give low income people a credit for some level of spending.
That's just it, with a consumption tax, only YOU are sticking anything to YOURself as YOU control YOUR consumption and thereby YOUR level of taxation.
You want people to have incentive to save to provide for their future, there you go. Besides, wouldn't it be nice to people engaged in our black market economy kick in a little to the kitty too?
Nice plan, big gov't keeps me from buying things.... sooner or later you'll get it, that a huge expanding gov't will require more and more taxes from YOU, and sooner or later, if you're not rolling in money it will hurt, and you'll realize such tax and spend economics is not going to work, the gov't will have to CUT ITS SPENDING.
Not gonna happen in your liberal world of bigger and more expensive gov't.
With some sort of consuption tax on top of everything else I probably couldn't have afforded my Victory... it's an added expense now that is difficult for me... so glad that big brother could have "helped me figure out what I really need and what I don't"... I'm glad you're happy with such a nanny state but I'd rather make MY choices.
