I e-mailed CD and asked if their Gen2 magic brake light flasher works w/both the tour pack and the lower set of brake lights. Their response was something of the effect was "it depends where u splice it". Not a great response....so my question is, will their unit activate both....has anyone done this?
tia.
Thanks,
Harry

I'm sure their answer is correct. It depends where you splice it in your harness. A manual is your friend.

Maybe they weren't sure if you wanted both to flash or if you didn't want both to flash. If it wasn't asked specifically that way to me, my response would have been the same. But then, I also would have asked what the end result was that you are looking for...

On a somewhat related note;

I would like to know of some where I could put the unit where it would flash both the fender tail light and the trunk light?

And....

Some one earlier mentioned that the flashing unit will not allow the cruise control to engage?

Thanks in advance!

Harry, I did this more than a year ago, using the CustomLED product. I believe CustomLED is a subsidiary or something like that of CD, so we're talking the same product.

In any case, I then put up what I hope is clear documentation -- words and pics -- regarding how you can do this yourself. It was pretty easy. Here's the write-up:

Adding a CustomLED Magic Strobes Brake Light Flasher to the Topcase of a Victory Cross Country Motorcycle

Since then:

1) I've learned that if you lift the rubber strip that runs the length of the trunk lid, down the center, there's a connector in there. You may want to splice into that area, instead of behind the passenger backrest, the way I did. Or not. If I had to do it again, I think I'd still use the method I described in the write-up.

2) Pauljp did a video on the what I described in my write-up. He does excellent videos, and this one is no exception:

Note: this is a trunk-only flasher write-up. If you want to flash both the fender brake light AND the trunk brake light, you're on your own, at least in terms of my write-up and Paul's video.

Me, I never take the trunk off -- it's just too handy for helmet storage during lunch stops, etc. -- so it wasn't an issue. Also, of the two brake lights, the trunk light, IMHO, is at the better height to catch the attention of brain-dead motorists.
