Quick question for those in the know about a Cross Roads:
looking at trading in my Hammer on a 2011 Cross Roads - seems to be a decent deal. my question is that right now it has the leather-ish bags on it. What would be needed to swap out those out for the factory hard bags, other than the hard bags themselves? i like the look of the hard bags and the fact they lock over the leather bags.
Are they Victory leather bags? There was a soft set of bags and a leather wrapped hard style, if it has the leather wrapped ones then the mounts should be the same, you would just need the hard bags to go in there.
Yep. Same mounts. Make sure you get the hinges, latches, and keys with the new hard bags. Might want to lay down some heat shielding in the bottom or under the bags to keep things in the bags from getting too hot.
I had soft leather bags on my Kawasaki Vulcan and we traveled on it for 3 or more years. Never had locks and nobody seemed to have ever messed with them. I now have the XCT and even the previous bike a Yamaha Venture we didnt lock bags much. I lock the trunk, but mostly because we put the Senas in there GPS maybe a phone while its charging. Saddle bags usually get rain gear, bungees etc. Now if purely looks of the hard bags......
lol, if only you knew how many idiots roam around Syracuse..... I have to park in a parking garage downtown and its a 50-50 shot of someone being nearby where motorcycle parking is. i trust absolutely nobody when it comes to leaving my bike unattended... figured that since i am planning on sticking my rain gear in one along with a small toolkit that unlocked bags would provide a little too much temptation to some of the degenerates that sneak in the shadows and look for opportunities like this..
johnnyplano that xr is gorgeous. love the color matched bags.. still working on the details but hopefully that crimson beauty will be in my garage next weekend where the hammer is currently sleeping.
I don't have any experience with the soft bags...did the mufflers have the same rest brackets on them as the hard bags? I would imagine they did. If not, you'll want to track down a set and they're easy to find. I have two sets myself. Also, watch eBay and Craigslist as used bags pop up pretty frequently.
I put hard bags on my XR last year.
Bought them from Ma Vic when they had a 50% off sale.
Had them painted to match my bike.
The "leather" bag protective rails don't fit with the hard bags on. There's a different set of rails for the hard bags.
Locks are NOT included with the hard bag kit.
You'll most likely have to purchase an "ignition kit" that includes an ignition module, fuel door, bag and trunk locks, and 2 keys.
Shoot Paulie of Honda East an email. That's where I got the ignition kit from.
Here's the part number:

the short test drive i did was incredible - very different from the Hammer... but for the riding i am doing now, its going to work so much better... right tool for the right job so to speak..
Same here brother , as rides got longer and a couple overnight 800 mile rides on the Hammer I realized I needed something more . Other then morphine for my back , storage , wind protection , a front fender that works , comfortablity .... You know .:smile
It's a straight swap I got the hard bags a couple yrs ago I usually have the hard bags on in the winter months and then put the leather bags on in the summer
