I have been looking at a tach (part #2877652) that was made for 2010 Cross bike. According to the Victory website, it says it will not fit my 2014.
Anyone else ever try installing a this tach in a Cross bike other than a 2010?
They discontinued it?!?! What else has been discontinued for the XR. I have been debating getting a second larger windshield for longer trips. Have they also stopped production on those?
Eight Ball,
Start calling dealers and see if you can find one that has a tach in stock. Just because it's been discontinued doesn't mean it's unattainable.
TNXR,
You can still get the lexan part of the windshield from Cee Bailey or 7Jurock. You would have to install the metal parts from your windshield on them but it only takes 15-20 minutes to do.
I have the X large Cee Bailey on my X road - perfect for me. I'm 5'10 and have zero buffeting and can still look over the shield if I sit up straight -very good quality.
I just put the tach on my bike - glad I did! I got it from pure Polaris on sale for $114 about 6 weeks ago during their winter sale. Normally $199. It is a good improvement - Vic should have put them on the X Roads
Wow! Great response to my question, Thanks everybody.
Does this 2878209 kit include everything I need including cables and mounting brackets for both speedo and tach, or is there another part I need to find?
Description of the kit is a bit brief no matter where I look.
Kit comes with the chrome bracket and plug and play leads to a connector in the headlight nacelle. I went one step farther and added the Healtech gear indicator.
Maybe I did not ask the right question.
If I buy the tach kit, does it come with all of the parts to install.
The pics look like the speedo and tach share a common two hole bracket. Do I have to find a lead or build one to get the rpms?
I might be over thinking this install, but before I sink 200 USD into a tach, I want to ensure it will comes with all of the parts.
My experience with my truck headlite change over was a damn nightmare and wound up spending 600 USD and nothing fit or worked like the dude promised me on the phone. Anyone looking for a couple Cree 9005 headlites, I will sell at a bargain price.
But I digress...
I agree completely with IRV, there is no way I could go back to the single speedo. IMO the XR is too big of a bike to have that one cluster. The double cluster looks more normal and shame on Polaris for not putting it on the XR's to begin with.
My tach needle is stable. If the dealer has replaced yours twice then that makes me think it is an electrical connection problem and not a problem with the tach.
I doubt you will see the problem on the digital tach. Speaking as a retired electrician, the refresh rate of a digital meter is to slow to show slight or fast variations in reading. I always had to use my analog/swing arm meter when I was checking for fast or minor changes in voltage or amperage.
As far as checking the output of the sending unit/system of the bike, I do not know. Perhaps you will have to get a dealer involved with their computer equipment.
Tip o' the Hat to Paul from Toledo Honda for helping me out. I finally found a tach to put on my bike this summer. It is on its way to getting powder coated black and I will be installing it with the new mini apes I ordered as well.
Come on summer! thumb up
