Just wanted to let the asylum know that I was able to get a Klock Werks windshield for my 2011 XC for $166.00 including delivery!

I got my Klock Werks from the on-line order store "motoworldracing.com" using an on-line coupon. If you use the code "MOTO20" at checkout it takes 20% off your order. That brought the price down from $194.99 to $156.00...they added a $10 'handling fee' (they do this to all their orders...I guess that's how they get around the free shipping and no tax stuff) bringing my total price to $166.00.

Looking forward to putting this new windshield on and seeing the difference between it and my current Gustafson +4 tinted shield (don't like the tint). If it's as good as I've read about I'm going to be one happy camper (and I'll be selling the Gustafson +4 if anyone is interested)...;)

Hope this saves a few of you a couple of bucks...see ya on the road! thumb up

Posting pics

I'll take a few pics of it on my bike and also stand alone once I take it off--after the new windshield arrives...if you like I can post a pic of the bike if you just want to see how dark the tint is...RR

Looking out of my garage...

This isn't a great pic but it shows the tint...the sun was VERY bright and you can see how the tint works when you look at my truck in the background...:D

The windshield under my garage lights at night...

Hope these pics help...I'll let you know when my replacement arrives and this goes up for sale.

In case you're wondering...
- I'm 5'7" (almost :D), my inseam is 30", I look over the windshield when I'm sitting up and the windshield is just below eye level (I'd say at my upper lip).
- If I slouch (no backrest...yet) then I end up looking through the shield.
- Wind protection is great! But I also have the Memphis Lowers and have never riden without this set-up...so if you need more info on the wind protection you may want to search the forum for reviews of this shield with lowers (there's a few).

Later...RR

Same Shield...

BBob...it's the same shield in all the pics. I only have the one shield (the original didn't come with the bike...the original owner didn't give it to me) so I guess it's the angle of the pics that may be causing the different looks. The flip on the shield isn't that noticable (visually...yes, there is a little distortion from the flip when you look through it) unless you look at it from the side...that's why I took the pic from the side to show the flip.

Hope that clears up the different looks for ya...I could always shoot more pics...I seem to use the bike as a prop for every pic I take when I'm out riding...:)

Funny how things can look so different under different conditions. :)

I'm looking forward to seeing the Klockwerks shield mounted on your bike. I think the shield shown on the various sites are a generic shield and not the actual shield. I'm also anxious to hear what you have to say about how the shield handles the wind in relation to your height. Ie. Does the wind hit the top of your head at all or does a passenger get some benefit from it?

Good morning. New member here with a 2011 Cross Country. I've had the bike for a year and have been visiting here off and on, and now have my first question. How tall is the Klock Werks shield from the vent ?? I have a replacement shield---can't remember the name but it's a weird shape. Does a good job of prtocting but I would like a more traditional shaped shield. I want to look over the shield but be able to slouch in case of rain. '12 shield is too tall. Thanks in advance for info !!

The original OEM is 9 inches from the vent. Are you trying to say that the un-named "replacement" screen you currently have is 12" from the vent? If so, then you may not find a lot of options shorter than that. I am 5'10" and can easily see over 13" aftermarket units so perhaps your particular after market is designed differently?

This new Klockwerks flare is 11" from the vent (according to another thread from a prototype user who has had it on his bike for about 6 months). I have my Klockwerks on order as well and will post before and after pics for those wanting a reference to the OEM screen.

Windshield Measurement

From the review on VOG.net (pretty cool little video critique) the measurement is 11" from the top of the vent opening to the top of the shield (basically right in the middle of the windshield). The flip isn't that severe but there is a slight distortion (at least that's what the video shows and what the reviewer indicates). I saw another review of this windshield (can't find the link ) that highlighted the indentations or side flips showing how they push the air away from the driver. Pretty cool set-up...just hope it works as advertised...;)

The windshield I have now works great, manages the wind very well with my Memphis lowers, provides my wife with wind protection (she's only 5'2"...a cute 'short' southern belle) and looks very cool. My issue is with the tint and the height. It's a very dark tint and I leave for work before the sun comes up and I don't care for the 'darkened' view (I ride through a portion of 'deer territory' for the first seven miles of my 56 mile commute). I can see over the windshield when I sit up straight...but after a while I tend to slouch a little putting the top of the windshield right at eye level which splits my view. Nothing terrible about it I just don't like having it at that level.

I'm hoping the clear shield will get rid of my anxiety while riding during sunrise/sunset while still providing the same protection for me and my riding partner...and as soon as it gets here we'll test it out and provide a review!

Hope I answered all the questions...if not, well ping me...:D
