Flashing costs

It's just too high. $200 just to talk to the bike? $10,000 to get the Victory software????

Anyone else think we need to hack this thing and create an open source alternative?

I'm an electronics guy who does a bit of coding. Anyone else got the expertise to help fix this mess?

Open to suggestions if there is something out there, all I've seen so far are for Jap bikes and cars.

Is the thing OBDII compliant? Anyone have information on processor used in the ECU, or comm protocols?

It used to be $100 that I remember. I'd check with a different dealer because it sounds like that dealer might be price gouging.

Do not connect ODBII scanner or risk corrupting your ECU. Although the connector will fit, our ECUs are trained to freak out if another system is linked to it. Victory's way of ensuring you need them.

At $200 a flash (and keep in mind that the California map is weaker than circus lemonade), you might as well buy Lloydz' VFCIII. It will be good after any future mods you end up making. Besides, why pay anything for the castrated CA Stage1 flash?

Please add your bike's year and model to your signature. Here's why.

The point is we should be able to talk to the ECU at a reasonable cost. Adding something external, because you can't is lame. Sure, it's the only way right now, but that's still lame.

We need an open source solution.

But yeah...$200? It's like $50 at my dealer for a flash. At $200, get a FC like Lloyd's or something.

Map card for a S1 flash is right at $150, and then there is usually a half hour labor. His $200 is right in line with reality.
Lots of people have tried to break the code on the Vistion system Vic uses; including some of the big deal Compact Car tuners, but to date the only one I know that is getting anything done is Lloyd, and I'm pretty sure he had some assistance from S&S[who has the keys]

I'm not an asshole...I just type that way

Yeah, I plan on trying. I don't really have much free time for the rest of the year though, so all I've done so far is open up one of ECU's to see what IC's are there.

It uses one of the CAN protocols and I think it's a safe bet that it uses OBDII (It would cost too much money to have visteon re-invent the wheel for them).
The processor is the ST10F273M.

Thanks!

for the processor part number!!! Big help. Here's a link to the datasheet for those inclined...

http://www.st.com/internet/automotiv...uct/115134.jsp

That will help define the comm protocols. Now we can get a core dump and start looking

IF ANYONE HAS AN OLD OR DAMAGED ECU THEY DO NOT NEED BACK...PM me please.

Thanks again.

Consider the wheel reinvented. Uses OBDII for data recall, but operates on its own operating system. If you don't believe me, plug in a scanner, start the bike, and try to read. When the bike quits working; you to will become a believer
