I'll be installing it tonight as I reassemble for the Ness Modular Apes install. Is it true that you need to wear a radiation suit when handling these bulbs?

No, but you have to hold your breath the whole installation time.

Yes it does.

Are there any consequences for reversing polarity other than it won't light?

No, the kit will not power up if the wrong polarity is applied. Just plug it in one way, test it, and if it doesn't work, reverse the connector.
