We started out in Phoenix at 3:00 am Az time and ended up in Bozeman Mt at 10:00 pm again Az time so 1043.1 miles in 19 hours.
That was a Thursday. I never had a hot shower feel so good at the end of the ride!!

Friday my wife arrived and rented a car and we toured Yellowstone, spent the entire time with my son and future Daughter-in-Law and just did a lot of sight seeing. That was Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Monday and Tuesday we rode back and at the end total trip mileage was 2120 miles.

We rode through rain, snow, wind, dust storms, torrential rain (raining sideways), fog and warm sunshine. Oh yea even a forest fire.

I earned my Iron Butt Saddle Sore 1000 but did it one way not round trip plus had one hell of a good time.

Photos on the way.

I did kinda of the same thing last year in September, flew into Vegas and grabbed a rental car and heading north to Yellowstone, we did 2406.2 with no cruise control, that was a Saturday to Saturday run.

Did you do the complete Yellowstone experience? We spent two whole days in there, Mammoth hot springs is something out of this world.

We did do a full burn from West Yellowstone back to Vegas in a day, that was our longest distance we did in a day or to date.

That Saturday we spent 12 hours there.

Planning to do another trip out there next year about the same time, Last week in September, kids are back in school, seemed to be not a lot of people there, weather was perfect, no rain the entire time, highs in the upper 60's and lows in the upper 30's, animals where very active, still did not see a wolf or a grizzly bear. Might try to fly in a little closer, but man the ticket prices go up even more.

That's when the pea brain, pot bellied road blocker comes out of hibernation and migrates to national parks.

I spent a good four hours just at Yellowstone lake, sun rise was pretty dang impressive, same thing over at the Tetons, got up at 4am and beat just about everyone else into the park.

I know the speed limit was 45 though most of the park, but man..some people seemed to never get above 25, the north entrance route was pretty full of buffalo so had tons of people taking pictures of them, Heck we saw our first bison in Utah and then again just on the other side of the Tetons.

Dang Vin, you probably rolled right on through my neck of the woods. We're hoping to make it back this summer, maybe in about 10 days or so.

I've been to Yellowstone a few times and a must do for me is motel it two nights at Cooke City just spitting distance from the NE gate. On the day in between, go over the Beartooth Highway (pass) to Red Lodge for lunch, turn around and do the Beartooth again back to Cooke City. Cooke City from dinner time on has no traffic and you can walk down the highway and dogs sleep on it.
Now on to Yosemite. I leave on the 31st to attend the Southern Cruisers Riding Club national rally near there. Then some Sierra pass bagging afterward. Maybe a run to the coast on legendary Hwy.36 with its 140 miles of twisty twisties.

We where kinda pressed for time, or so we thought, it was our first time out in that area and was trying to get our surrounding senses under control, came into Jackson hole on a sunday afternoon and it was a cluster, but made it though with little fuss, now that we know what to look out for and where everything is, next time will be way better.

Last year (or was it 2014? I can't remember) PaiN and I took a ride from Connecticut to the Kangamagus Highway (Lincoln, NH near Laconia). As soon as we entered that first hairpin curve, there were 1000-foot sections of dirt-and-gravel construction every mile or so, and the pot-bellied RV doing about 10 MPH the whole way. Kinda anti-climactic. Still was an amazing ride, did almost 600 miles that day.

Yellowstone is a great place to see. Did it 2007. Road the Black Hills in South Dakoda, on to Montana. Then Beartooth pass in to Wyoming and the northeast entrance to Yellowstone. then South back to Texas. Over 3,000 miles. Doing a 1500 mile run in a few weeks to Colorado. Million Dollar Highway and Silver Thread Byway. Seven mountain pass, 5 old mining towns high in the Rocky's.

Great pictures. Wish more people would post their runs. Should be a forum just for that.

We did the Colorado Million Dollar Highway a few months ago from Phoenix to Durango then Silverton the highway and home.

I don't think a lot of people do days long runs I'm fortunate to be able to do them. Couple weeks we're off to Tombstone/Bisbee for the weekend and month after that on to El Paso TX for the weekend.

One of my ridding buddies has a brother that lives in Southern Arizona. We are going to ride down there next year. I want to do the Coronado trail on the way back home in Eastern Arizona. This fall we are doing the 3 Sisters in the Texas Hill Country.

Was this your first Iron Butt documented ride? I am anticipating the SS1000 in a few months. Who rode with you on the vision? Great pics I swear I am located in the wrong part of the country. All I have is flat land in all directions for hours.

This is the first one. The Vision rider is a friend of mine that also wanted to check a SS 1000 off the bucket list. We did it one way and played tourist for three days then made the ride back we both figured might as well make it a destination and have fun instead of just a round trip then it's just miles.
