Raining big time here and temps drop down to 80 degrees with less dupont.
Am no gueroui on fuel pumps but learned a lot. Replacing the fuel float was not that bad.
When you pull a vision a part and find all the tabs for body alignment and how they bolt the parts together it takes my breath away thinking how smart these guys are. In the 8 hours I labored over this project I learned something and things I didn't need to do.
So I saved myself $800 bucks for sure.
There is a metal locking washer that didn't come with the float. You have to pry it off and that means getting something under this flat washer. Out of the hundreds of tools I have and none of them worked I wound up using a table fork to get under it and pry with a lot of force.
Getting the fuel pump inn was scary. It would not sit down in the tank. I didn't know I had to force it down.I used a Ford model A gas tank float. Ask for the flat locking washer when getting the part.
2 one one 3 gallon on each side. Was shocked how clean it was on the inside.
Must of had a robot weld the aluminum its flawless.
Its a Bosch fuel pump made in china. Have the part number going to napa and see if they have crossreference
Does the Vision has exactly the same fuelpump & filter setup as all the other Vic's ?? As far as I read all Vic's have the same fuelpump and filter EXCEPT the Vision .... Regardless the year of course ...
Is your vision back on the road, and why did you have to replace the fuelfloat ? That should only fix a fuel gauge ??
vision is the oddball when it comes to the fuel pump. The float was not registering righ. There is no fuel filter on them. Vic says to change pump at 40K and its only a $400 dollar pump. If I didn't like the looks of the vision I would of stayed with what I had.
I was on empty and the gauge said half tank. Good thing I reset trip meter every fill up.
It must be me but it feels like more power no.
Did you find a cheaper alternative sensor, or go with Vic part? Not sure if sensor itself is same on XC (I'll look it up depending on your 2¢)?
Asking because I noticed mine drip from about half to basically empty for a couple tanks, then ran out when gauge was still on 3/4 last week (didn't notice trip meter @211 while rodding around town), then on weekend road trip, it basically stuck at F the whole time. Looks like it burned out.
I have the service manual, and will sanity-check the resistance between the brown & green wires tonight.
If my dealer has one, theyre probably only $30, but I hate pulling stuff apart & waiting for the part - other projects jump into my lap too easily......
Thanks for sharing!
it was the fuel float that went bad. Mine was doing same thing reading as if I had gas when mileage said I didn't. Put is 5 gallons when it showed a half tank.
Vic does not sell a float but they do have a hole pump for $300 bucks or more.
I found a local antique Ford dealer here in town and bought a float for a 1930 model A $3.95 ( make sure ) you ask for clip that holds it in place. Use a fork to get it off.
Doubt a dealer would do the float for you
Seems backwards. Usually when float goes bad, it sinks & shows empty or at least lower than what's there. How did the float go bad and show MORE gas than you had? Usually, if the sensor shorts to less than 50ohms (inner coil fuses across coils), then it shows full like mine, and if it burns open then it always shows empty because its over the 250ohms that tell the gauge it's Empty.
