I'm down in Florida visiting my parents and the weather is gorgeous. Riding weather for sure. My bike is back home in Ontario in my garage covered waiting for the salt on the roads to cleared with some good rain. The weather has been warm back home but here in Florida this is riding weather. I may have to look into renting a bike for a day or two so I can get through the week.
There are trade-offs for anywhere one lives. For Floridians, it is having to ride straight roads on very flat terrain and enduring frequent rain showers. For Northwesterners, its enduring days on end of rain from Nov. through March, but being able to ride a lot of curvy, twisty and technical roads in varying but hilly to mountainous terrains. Within about an hour from Portland, we have the Pacific, Mount Hood, Mount St. Helens, high desert, the Columbia River Gorge with its many waterfalls and much more. I'm sure you have riding advantages over what Florida offers.
Now, now BOTH days of summer in the Northwest are great riding days.........And the mountains are beautiful (all the time really but)....two different days when you are working......and you get one of those "bright" periods when the clouds part for 10 min and the rain stops....such rare beauty...........End of chain yanking.... ;-)
It rarely rains in Florida in Oct. through April which are the best riding months. What we really suffer from is the horrible summer weather which is 95-100 almost every day with high humidity and a thunderstorm in the afternoon more than 50% of the time. That's why I only live here in Oct. through April and Michigan in the summer months. Of course, central Michigan where I am from is equally flat and straight so not great riding but the weather in the summers is wonderful.
Spot on.
Summers are much less fun for riding!
Right now it is as good as it gets anywhere I suppose for riding (weather wise).
You CAN find some hilly and twisty places to ride in central FL. The Mount Dora area for example.
Then there is riding through the Keys!
I think this is what he is hinting at. 11912 Lane Park Road

I have been to the Pacific North Wet more than once when I was in the Af and flying. Several fifferent months and they all grow mold from being wet. It appears to me the rainy season up there runs from Jan 1st to Dec 28th. North of I 4 defiantly has more winding roads than down where I'm at. Closest thing I have where I'm at for twisties is traffic circles. You should see the looks the old folks in the golf carts give me when I go around them a couple times.
Ya have to just adapt and make the bes of where your at. I lived in Southwest Oklahoma for 20yr. Talk about straight roads and HOT.
The Leesburg bike fest is all the good things in a bike fest with vastly less crowds. I've been to Daytona and Myrtle Beach and they really suck. To go anywhere you'd better plan on "walking" the bike for miles because the traffic is so bad. Leesburg doesn't have this problem. I really like it. Plus, it is 10 minutes from my house
I'll take the weather here. No ice, snow, no cold weather. In my area, for some reason, not a lot of rain. Once in a great while, cold front. High 40's low 50's. In the afternoon back up to high 60's to mid 70's. Did I mention no snow. Retired & a great place to live.
My "local" (80+ miles one way) Victory dealer puts on a customer ride most months. Todays ride from Lakeland thru the backroads over to Sebring was wonderful. Temps in low-mid 70's partly cloudy with spots of sunshine. Just a great day. these guys @ Sky Powersports Lakeland are great!!! Good folks and the service customer relations I have had with them has been excellent. Today's ride included a lunch afterwards. Nice chance to mix with folks from around the area and maybe meet some new friends and possible riding meets.
