Fuel filters

I have had a fuel filter on back order for 3 months. It was suppose to come in early April. Now they say 5 May. I have a 2011 Cross Country. 38,000 miles. I'm leaving on a trip at the end of this month. How many miles have y'all heard of people going over 30,000 miles with out fuel filter problems? The scooter is running great and I hear no sucking noise from the filter. I know the sound of a filter clogging up on a Victory.

Oh boy... :)

Some have gone 60000 (or more) without an issue, some have had one plug at 20000. Vic recommends to replace them at 30000 but my personal opinion is that it is one of those things where you could get a tank of bad gas and plug it up, in which case it doesn't matter how old it is; you're screwed either way.

If it were me, I would not let that stop me from going on my trip.

I'd go ahead and go personally. If you have a filter plugging up you'll know it.. the fuel pump will sound like it's eating itself when you turn on the key to prime.. which is where I'm starting to get with my 07 KPT. I'd LOVE to be able to just go and order from somewhere NOT Victory to get a replacement.. but I haven't seen anyone offer a complete kit yet.

I'm going, just wanted to get some feed back from you guys. The scooter is ready to go. I'm ready to go. Thanks

I am at about 33K and no issues as yet. Turning on the bike the pump is very quiet and purrs confidently, so I am going to go ahead and order the filter, but not be too worried as to it's arrival. Even if it does come, I won't change it for a while so long as things stay as they are. I am very particular about where and when I gas up. Only two brands I use right now. They came highly recommended by an old mechanic with a very busy shop who has seen the inside of a lot of motors. HE says that Shell and Valero users always have cleaner engines.

Have you looked for or called the company to see if they have the matching tube to go with their fuel pump and filter?

I haven't seen this particular filter talked about here so either I missed it or no one has got one and installed it yet (here). Pictures would be helpful. Since we are unable to link to the conversation you had on the other site; you would need to quote anything relevant to the subject here for it to be considered or we can just not concern ourselves with posts elsewhere which is my preferred choice since we are not elsewhere.

Other options might be something as simple as a stainless worm gear clamp or even stainless wire wrapped around it a couple of times and twisted tight.

Maybe someone here who has experience with this particular filter will chime in with the solution they used.

Somebody should contact Rylan. Being that he rebuilds, replaces and services these so regularly.. I bet he knows about this brand and has either touched it or used it. Plus it would be good to get a thumbs up or down from an expert. I would call but my geographic location makes calls rather irritating.

Why would that be an irritating call from CA?

Someone could call him and ask but I'm not sure it would be a fair question for him to answer since he sells and rebuilds the OEM pumps. I would think it would put him on the spot.
@kevinx might be though or maybe Lloyd.

I've used a Turkish toilet more times than I care to admit. 31 years old with 4 years in Afghanistan, Iraq and Kuwait. Soldier and contractor. Try squatting over one of those with 80lbs of gear and an M4 w/M203 grenade launcher while your battle buddy guards the door. Talk about leg shake.

I've had one on back order since mid Feb with WD. They told me then it will ship around April 5. I checked with them yesterday and they said they are due to arrive April 13. We will see.

104,000 on my first one and I was not having any issues at the time. I never let my tank get under 1/4 and the gas in Ca is extremely clean, to the point of looking like water. Actually when I'm on the road in diff states I notice right away how much diff there is even in the smell. No idea if this has anything to do with the longevity or not, noting that I have ridden tens of thousands of miles outside of Ca..

Chit on a gold wing they have a screen, nothing replaceable.

Ordered mine on Feb. 19. It was stated it will ship early April, that moved to April 13, now I got a response back that it has been moved to April 30. They state that Polaris is the one delaying the shipping date.

Late to the discussion but....what material is the filter made from? I've seen sintered metal filters that can be easily cleaned with a judicious application of clean solvent and compressed air.....

From what I keep getting told from inside Polaris, they went away from the old style filter and did not find a replacement that was worth anything, so they are still in development stages AGAIN. I guess they tried a new filter from some other supplier and it could not keep up with the flow rating, the next one was not Ethanol rated, the one after that was just falling apart I guess due to the ethanol as well. That would put these on the MK VIII or even MK IX now.

Paulie - I believe you 100%

But I don't believe a word of what Polaris is telling you. How could they go 90+ days with no inventory while they supposedly re-design the part? Unless they're even more ignorant than I think they are. They should have kept the current and perfectly acceptable item in stock until after they design, test, verify and fill the pipeline according to current inventory levels and need. I also don't believe Polaris is spending $0.10 to re-design anything for a Victory motorcycle.

Maybe there was an issue with the Chinese fuel filter pump and filter manufacturer. Or maybe Polaris simply ignored the need to order more of these 'wear' parts. Who knows, they've been out of these even before the announcement on Jan 9th. But I look forward to an aftermarket company, maybe even the oem Chinese manufacturer. making them available to the market. Without Polaris Industries.

Polaris doesn't actually 'make' much. Like other 'manufacturers'. they assemble sourced items into a whole product. I look forward to Polaris breaking as many of their parts contracts as soon as possible so as to give the aftermarket suppliers ample inventory of what we actually need.

do you think there looking for new filter cause they need them for the indian.
With fuel pumps being around for the last 16 years I can't believe they can't find one or maybe they don't want to.
