After getting the flywheel off, then retaining ring and washer, is the starter gear suppose to just pull off? And if so, how much pressure do must you use to get it off? I feel like i'm being a pu**y trying to get it off so i thought i'd find out if anyone else has walked down this street.
Yes visionjohnny the starter is out. According to the 2006 service manual on page 9.25, the picture has the exact gear I need to get off. I think my problem is in this section. I would screen shot it but i don't know how. So here's where i'm at....exhaust off, starter out, primary cover off, flywheel off, starter gear retaining ring off, washer off....gear not budging. Did i miss something? I just need that gear off. Any clues?
So I finally had the time again to investigate this problem. I went to Autozone, picked up a gear puller, and removed the starter drive gear. Remove the clutch starter drive and EUREKA.....5/5 of the bolts holding the primary drive gear were severely loose and 4/5 of those bolts no longer had heads! The shifting of the gears issue should be resolved when i go to the dealership in the a.m. and pick up some new bolts. I also pulled that gear out just to clean all the metal shavings out, there was a ton.
