Speed bump to oil leak

Hey guys,

I went over a huge speed bump this morning and heard the bottom of my motor hit pretty hard. Got home and realized there was a huge oil leak. It is not coming from the bottom of the motor, oil filter, or the primary. It appears to be coming from a line which I will assume is an oil line but I dont know too much about that line. It runs parallel to the primary but not under it to where it would have been impacted by the speed bump. I have oil overspray on the sidestand from when it was up, the primary, the side bag, and tire.

I don't have pictures yet as I had to jump on my Honda to ride to work. Do anyone have a guess as to what it "could" be?

Yeah I'll edit my post. I didn't mean to say oil pan. I am asking my club brother to take pictures but he is not at my house yet. I will send them as soon as he can take them.

Whouw mate .... That's not good ...

Yes pictures would me nice ... On the left side of the bike are running the oil line's to the oil cooler ...

Keep us updated please ... I'm very interested in this case ...

Yeah man I am anxious to get home to do some more discovery and take pictures. Arlen Ness is two blocks from me and I went by there to explain what happened and see if they could give me a guess. The tech guy just stated I could have cracked the engine case but he couldn't be sure without jacking it up and looking at it.

Man I am nervous as hell!!!

This is a good case for buying skid plates guys ..... 250.00 skid plate ...... 5,000 dollar motor job . Hmmmmmmm ....

Yes i would be nervous as well ... Just hope it is the oil lines ...

But a cracked engine would be -&%#%&-+

I am praying its the oil lines or something simple to fix. And if I am lucky that its not a cracked case, I am putting a skid plate on overnight delivery.

Guess skid plate is a safe option .... I always get "stuck" with my jackpot rolling on/off the ferry to next Island, but it slides right over .... The HD's are actually "stuck" and need help from the ferry crew .... A sore sight to say the least ....

... And so many speedbump here too .... Quite a few small scratches on the bottom of my engine .... Never bottomed-out hard YET .....

Ps don't want to scare you but the oil lines are NEXT to your engine, so almost impossible to "hit" them ..... Good luck tonight when you come home finding the source of the oil leak ....

All the oil has drained out throughout the day. Cleaned up the mess and discovered the source where I think it is leaking. Look at the pics and tell me what you all think.

Just did a double check after re-cleaning and its definitely leaking from that seal where the clutch shifter goes into the primary.

Taking a wild guess, it looks to me like the shifter arm may have taken the hit and in turn, stressed the case. Look to see if the bottom of the link looks scraped.

Here's hoping its just the seal. If you know which end the screwdriver is the handle, you can fix this yourself.

You are a lucky man Tgrant, that's an easy fix .... Bent or not bent ...
Agree with RICZ post ....

I didn't see any damage or scratches to the shifter and linkage but it's definitely leaking from that seal. I can literally see it leaking. I'm calling the dealer tomorrow to order another one.

Man I'm happier than a hooker during super bowl weekend lol

Ordered it earlier :)

I don't know anything about the seal which is leaking but I do know that on the Honda VTX, the shifter seal can come partially out from pressure buildup in the crankcase resulting from a blocked vent hose. This is a purposefully built-in weak point to prevent catastrophic failure. This Honda VTX seal can simply be pressed back in place and the bike ridden off into the proverbial sunset. There is no need to buy a new seal. Is there any chance that the Victory seal is the same? Can it be simply pushed back into place and all will be good?

G'day,

Vinish

I've read that it can be pushed back into place and that will temporarily stop the leak. But in the same reading, it came out again and it was recommended getting a new one that will seat itself tighter and not come out.

Yep that is the thread I was reading. As soon as Arlen Ness opens I will be making the order for one.

By the way, they have some bad azz custom Vics on the showroom floor.

Replaced the seal and leak is gone. Yeah Buddy!!!

Rant: Why the hell does Victory like to use aluminum bolts on these machines? I broke the bolt taking it out of the linkage and had to spend an hour or so drilling the piece out that was left in the thread. Sheesh!!!

#27 ·
Aluminum bolt ?? Have not found one yet ... On your shifter link clamp ?

But the stock bolts on vic are very low quality i have been replacing them on every job / bolt-on i do on my vic ....

I am tired of breaking them shits then having to reorder them. I have since started buying metal screws and bolts from Lowes or Home Depot.

#26 ·
haha I know silly

#28 ·
The Vics are covered with aluminum bolts and yes the shifter clamp has two aluminum bolts on it.
