How do you tell a CA bike from the rest?

I've got a brand new 2010 Hammer S. I was suprised with it yesterday from my totally awesome wife, if you can believe that. Life is good.
Wondering though, how to tell if it's a CA bike or made the other 49 states that like horsepower and don't like all the emission garbage?
She said that the dealer picked it up from Colorado. I'm in Utah. My brother just got a CA bike with the idea it would be easy to strip that CA emission trash off. This was not the case.

Any insight here would be greatly appreciated.

look at the vehicle id # the last letter indicates if it is calif L or other 49 state D followed by numbers as in L093000000 meaning Calif. 2009 plant 3 and the serial # [ i don't have any idea what plant # 3 is ]

Emmisions wise you have the cat cons and the charcoal emission canister. Odd thing....i have yet to see a California bike that the canister didn't fall off of within 30 days of ownership!!

Here is the canister. Mine houses the air compressor for the Kewl Metal Air Ride.

Whew! It's got a D! YeaH!

The canister I was seeing was at the bottom, between the down tubes of the frame, under the oil cooler. Anyone know what this is?

I do believe you are talking about the starter. If you look at my pic is it behind the tool bag I have mounted?
