I have an 06 kingpin and the lifters are pretty noisy. Loud upon first start the slightly quieter. Was this common and is there a standard repair? I had similar issues with one of my EH bikes which also had the hydraulic lifter noise.
Try using Rotella T-6. Its a 5w-40, so you get much faster circulation to all the critical parts. My lifter noise went away with T-6. Prior to a cold start, I place a room heater with a fan near the engine about an hour before start-up. That makes life a lot easier for the starter, the battery, engine and tranny.
All 106's have a chatter, like I said before I'd start worry if I stopped hearing engine noise at this point
Same as @RITZ the noises became much less when I switched to Rotellla T6 5w-40 a few years ago.
Agree with VJ on this, when I first got my Vegas used to hear a lot of clatter on start up, lasted maybe a full minute. Then I started holding the bike straight up when starting cold or after sitting more than a few, only hear them for a second on startup, really cold mornings a little more
Loud pipes are the go!
I once took my helmet off way out in the sticks and the mechanical cacophony was enough to make me put it back on.
Also the wind noise was unbearable.
Yeah, they're handy for sitting on, putting things in when shopping, and can be used as a weapon in a fight, many uses for the ol brain bucket, skid lid, bash hat, melon protector.
Also handy if you do any form of car racing in your spare time.
Funny on the dragstrips over here you must have a full face helmet to race a bike.
Yet to race a car an open-faced helmet is cool in a car slower than 10.5 secs.
I use a Bell skullcap CHP style helmet when racing the car as I can hear my engine a lot better with that, than a open or full face.
My 06 vegas has 29xxx miles, I use T6 and it was the best thing I have done, super smooth and sounds great to boot, try that, it's cheap to. I have owned 5 harleys talk about lifter and head noises!!
