Question about intakes and velocity.

How important is it that the "barrel/barrels" of the intake body be smooth? By "barrel" I mean the tube/tubes the air flows down into the throttle body. Will any roughness inside cause the air to not flow as well? Seems to me the inside should be polished. Thoughts?

Actually on a FJ40 the intake is from aluminum and full with little bumps, exactly like a goofball but then bumps, so I did some serious reading about this toppic, here goes

The carburetor and fuel mixes, then drawn trough the intake, so the surface of the intake is on purpose "rough" like a golfball so the air and fuel mixes better....

It may not only be about mixing but optimizing the flow rate. For more information google "turbulent vs. laminar flow".

Thanks Vinish. I read some and it makes me want to poke my eyeballs out. LOL. Why can't they write these things so you can understand them. I love examples over written.
