For months I have been sitting on my Thirdgears intake trying to come up with a place to tune my bike. I had someone inline but they were waiting on their own bike to start the dyno up and tune his own bike first.
Well yesterday morning I found another tuner about an hour or so away and gave them a call. They said they could get me in next week if I wanted. I told them I needed to install my intake and would get back to them. I was uncomfortable doing the work alone and decided to ask a friend if he had some time in the future to help me. He said he was just waiting on a call and could help right now if I wanted. After about 4-5hrs of work we had it installed along with changing out the rubber throttle body adapter. Bike fired up and seemed to idle fine. Called the tuner and they were able to get me in this coming Monday.
It is so crazy to have waited so long and then Bam it's all done.
Install thoughts on the Thirdgear product:
The Thridgear intake attaches from the bottom up. Meaning you have to cut out the threads in the throttle body to allow the bolts to come up through the whole assembly. You are supplied with screws and washers as 2 of the bolts are to long and slack has to be made up with washers. Well we cut down all the bolts 3/8 of an inch so they would install without the washers. Using the washers IMO is a pretty tacky way of doing things. would have liked the bolts to be cut down prior to shipping it to me.
The intake hits the little cross plate which makes getting the filter on the end really difficult. I ended up with a couple of bends in the filter element making it look a bit ugly. Was able to roll them out of the way for the most part so it looks good from the sides. The filter also just barely fits into the area the old box sat in making it hard to get on also. This is where I got the bends from sort of compressing the end of the filter.
Now I wait till Monday and see what my numbers are on the dyno. So crazy that it all just came together and happened so fast.
