Thinking of buying a Victory

Hey all, I don't own a Victory but a guy wants to trade my boat for his Vegas. I do have a bike that I put over 18k into and know I'll never get that money back out of it. I was wondering if this was the case with this bike too.

It's a 2005 Vegas with less than 2500 miles on it...here's his description of the bike....

About the bike, I bought it new in 2006, in order to buy it for 16500 I had them put the 100ci bore kit on the bike at purchase, then I added the wheels for an additional $3500 which I know was nuts, but they look great! Also put on the led turn signals that really look great cause you really don't see them, that was a cost of about $1000. I also put the shotgun pipes and the stage 2 kit which was chipped and a k and n air flow system.

What do you think the bike is worth?

Welcome to the forums Tank, glad you are looking at a Vic as they are a reliable, fun machine to ride! Im on my 2nd one now..

Im not up and up on the Vegas nor the mods he has on it but with some time to kill at work tonight I was doing some research. Going to include a couple links for you to make your own determination. Im only trying to offer some information, hopefully some others chime in that may have a better Vegas background. I know on TC's, they actually seem to be going back up since I bought mine so that shows the increasing demand for Vic I would think. Solid machines!

First, looking at the boat market... I think that is a question you have to ask and answer yourself. My neighbor is stuck under his right now valued and booked at 42K but reality has it selling for right around low 30's in our area ranging out to 500+miles. Just an example as I know its a trade for the bike. Are you wanting to get out from under your boat and get something with less taxes and more use? Which one going to give you more use in current economy should you try to sell it outright.

Now the bike:

Because we choose to accesorize, it is just like personalizing a house. May not be what the buyer wants nor does he think its worth that amount, we just wind up eatting a chunk of that cost to make it our own when we sell it. You liked your bike and made it yours... For everything else, theres mastercard!

Still a 2005, sorry... Not your problem he had to pay for accys so he could get the 16.5 either. Looking at cycletrader the prices seem to be all over the place for the bike itself. 8-10K for low milage 2005-2006 kinda an average.

100ci ok, performance but the 3500 on the wheels.. Yes it was nuts. Sorry, he's gonna have to eat a chunk of that one.. And do you like the wheels?

Here is Lloyds web for the Vegas: http://www.lloydz.com/store/store_re...ingpin%2FVegas

Check it out Lloyds for the part pricing then come up with a guess for yourself. As I understood it, 2:1 were the better choice anyway.. Hopefully HalfCrazy may chime in here, he does have a good knowledge of engine performance and what the cost would be.

My thought is this. Can you sell the boat and pick up a Vic that you like appearance wise? It don't take a butt ton of cash to bring that 100ci to life without going into the engine unless you want to. Fuel controler, cams, filter and pipes will have you grinning ear to ear. May be cheaper in the end. Or, if you have had your fun in the boat and time to move on. Could be an easy cross over. Keep in mind that 2500 miles in 6 years could easily mean tires, battery too. Check for any cracking.

I know I am not answering your question outright but hope it gives you some more info to base your decision on. Keep us posted and like I said, as the sun rises, I am sure you will get some more feedback. I seen you were on so thought I would toss this your way.

Am a new Victory owner myself so will just say Welcome and I am loving mine after almost 500 miles which will have on the next ride to the Dealer .. Unless looking to get shed of the boat any way you can .. Think I would sell the boat out right and then check into newer model Vic's .. Can tell you by recent experience they are giving great deals on any left over new 2012's ..

Thanks for the ton of information Tim!
The thing is I don't really need two bikes but I've always wanted a Victory...see I have an Excelsior Henderson (I'm a big Union guy and love American products) but its been tough to sell because no one know the bikes.
My boat is for sale and this guy approached me, I have it listed for 13,500, he wanted to trade plus a two grand in cash.

The bike looks super clean but I don't want to get into something again that I'm already upside down in.

Sorry Gator, I should change the title.

I may be reading this wrong but does he want your boat plus you to kick in 2K? No way.

If it is the other way and he is booking his bike at 11.5 and kicking in the rest for the asking cost of the boat, that may be close but I hope you really like what he is asking, I think he took a ride on what he paid for the wheels and flat robbed for the lights.

I love my Victory, wish I would have gone this way years ago but your results may be different. On trades, sometimes things can look to good to pass up as well.

You should run. This guy is full of shit. If he's full of shit about the prices he paid (no such thing as $1000 LED turn signals, even WITH labor included), he is gonna be full of shit about issues with the bike.

Sounds like a Bad deal

For the amount he's asking ($11.5k?) you could get a 2011-2013 Vegas.

The only reason i wouldnt get a victory is if the closest vic dealership was too far away and i wasnt able to do my own maintenance. Besides that, if u like any of the victories and can get a good deal, no reason not to.

This deal you are considering doesnt seem the best though...
