So I just picked up a 2000 victory v92 that was built by old 97 choppers. Its a nice bike but it needs some love so I plan on working on it this winter and getting it tip top buy ive never owned a victory so Im sure there will be several questions. Biggest thing is 3rd and 4th gear are out so not sure if it will be easier and cheaper to rebuild the trans or replace it. Other than that it just needs paint work and a little wiring clean up but it runs great and sounds amazing. Pics to come later

If you're capable if pulling and stripping the motor yourself and splitting the cases, get all the gears and shift forks off
Paulie@hondaeasttoledo if it's a keeper.
Throw some rings and bearings in while it's down.
A used bottom end is a gamble.

Here's a vid you might want to watch. Its a good start to your Victory education.

Is there a check list for what all is needed to swap in a freedom motor? This motor runs perfect and only has 16k miles on it and supposedly has top end work done to it. The po said that he could adjust the shifter and make 3rd of 4th gear work but he couldn't make them both work at the same time, I think he is full of it buy anybody ever heard of such an issue?

Are you handy enough on the tools to remove and strip down the motor?
Could be maybe a bent shift fork inside the box?
How important is this project and how much money are you prepared to pour into it?
Answer those questions as well as if you're capable of doing the work yourself or paying a professional if you have someone you trust.
You won't know which direction you're heading till you can answer some if these questions.
We can tell you what it could or couldn't or may be but you won't know for sure till you go in there.
If it was mine I'd wanna keep it original as in future say another ten or twenty years what's gonna be worth more?
An original early Vic or a Bitsa?
It's up to you and what you're capable of doing /spending?

Nice electric orange colour by the way!

Thanks, the color is actually GoMango but most call it go man go. I painted one of my custom 70cc 3 wheelers that color, that's the fender to it in the pic I posted earlier. Anyways I am pretty good with a wrench and not too afraid to tear into something. I would prefer to keep it original but will go with something different and better if I must. Ive actually built several 3 wheelers, as in atc's, and had one put in a magazine after the build. So any of the 2001 and up 92 motors will work and have the upgraded trans correct?

Handy with the spraygun too I see!
Mate I'm no expert here you better off asking @kevinx or someone about the specifics.
Paulie@hondaeasttoledo is the man for the factory parts though.
GoMango is a Chrysler High Impact colour I think, aptly named 70s acid trip colours:devil
Well with the colour change and other mods I anticipate you're gonna make then the bikes gonna be far more than say a concourse original, more of a Victory Kustom.
In that respect you've got a blank canvas to do what you will and get creative.
Definitely following this thread.

Yup like i said it was built by old 97 choppers out of va at some point. They did a pretty good job with it but there are plenty of things I dont care for. I plan to smooth out things and polish others in addition to the paint. Performance wise it seems plenty healthy and sounds great so I dont think i need to do anything to it there. The injection system was all just rebuilt in the last 300 miles. I have next to nothing in it right now so I dont mind replacing the motor if I have to but I dont mind getting greasy and like saving a buck when I can.

I think the bike has too much already changed on it to want to put it back to oem, there would be a lot I would have to buy like the front rim, rear fender, exhaust, tail light, handle bars and riser, shifter controls, etc. I almost think I would have more into it that way then just doing it custom.

Yeah well 17 years is nothing in the grand scheme of things....it takes at least 30 years in my experience for something to stop dropping in value and start to turn around and come back up in values.
And only if said vehicle is worth having anyway.
Just cos something old don't make it valuable.
Modern electronics seem to go faulty around the 15 year mark anyway.
The number of 10-20 yr old so called 'luxury cars' going for scrap value proves that most modern crap after 1980 ain't worth collecting anyway.
Bikes may be different.
Don't expect an old original Vic to get valuable any time in the near future.
If I'd had foresight forty years ago I'd be a rich man today.

Anyway we've already clarified the OPs bike is destined for bigger and better things than sitting in a private museum....

Nice lookin bike! It looks like the bike started as a V92SC (Sport Cruiser). They were built in 2000 and 2001 only. They came with the black motor and crinkle black finish on the heads. It may or may not have the SC forks. They were larger diameter and had a brace on top of the fender. I can tell you that Rocket Roger did not do any head work on the bike. He probably has a WV Superchip in it and that's a good thing. 2001 had a "soft" third gear and Vic made a Cush drive to try and save them. 2000 tranny not good. Contact Rylan at the Vic Shop. He's the BEST on the Pre-Freedom motors. He can advise on fixin, swapping to Freedom, or possibly has an exchange motor you might can get a deal on. GOOD LUCK !!!

Taking off the primary cover won't give you access to the gears or shift forks or shift drum.
All you can get to inside there is the clutch and shift ratchet and Torque compensator.

To access the gearbox it's engine out, heads and barrels off to then split the crankcases to get inside.
