I bought lowering links for my 08 hammer. I was told an inch is acceptable but an inch half is too much. The belt will rub at an inch half, has anyone ever done this? I never ride 2up so I dont see a problem.

Unless you modify the sprocket cover the belt will rub. Modifying it is simple. It takes a little time but simple. Remove the exhaust, pull off the cover and grind down the top bolt sleeve. Then you will need to relocate your rear wiring harness. It runs down the middle of the rear fender. Just zip tie it to the left or right side of the fender rails. This will avoid ripping out your harness if you happen to bottom out.

I am putting the 1" links on my 2009 Hammer soon. I will relocate the harness. Do you think the belt rub is still an issue on the 2009? I have read some posts that seem to say this has been fixed on the later models. Also, what do I do to "preload" the shock. Thanks for your help.

I don't think you need to worry about the preload on your Hammer. I can't say for sure but I think I heard the same thing about the cover not being an issue on the newer bikes.

Personally I would grind it down just to be safe.

I also neglected to mention trimming about 1 inch off of the forward section of the belt guard.

You should check your belt for being to tight now and maybe you will have to do something with the kick stand. Diamond will know

1.5 inch is no problem, but you will want to route the harness as mentioned earlier. Not to mention double checking belt tewntion when done. On 08 and newer bikes there is no worries about front cover clearance

Should get the 1.5" kit in a couple of days for my '09 Kingpin. I had the fender off due to having the tag bracket powder coated, so I pulled the lighting harness out of the clips on the fender, re-routed and tied wrapped it down the right side frame rails.
