: Q: How to De-baffle swept pipes
blkvegas07 03-17-2010, 03:31 PM I have swept pipes on my 07 Vegas. I would like to know how I can de-baffle the exhaust. I see there is at least one bolt that holds the baffle to the exhaust. I can tell what else maybe in play. The curvature of the pipes make this a little more difficult.
Do I need to remove the exhaust ?
Do I need to break a weld on the baffle?
I cant tell what bolt head is holding the baffle. Does anyone know?
I really need a step by step how to get the baffle out.
Thank you.
worm5932 03-17-2010, 10:26 PM ive always heard leave them in.
The Riever 03-18-2010, 01:07 AM I'm curious about this too. My buddies ride HDs and that was the first thing they said, "Oh you can tell it has baffles on it." They gave me the old drill some holes in them story. What are the pros and cons of not having the baffles. I'm thinking it'll be a little louder and with less back pressure possibly make a few more HPs. But, will it void the warranty? Will I need any "electronic fuel mixers" adjusted or anything? Obviously I'm not a big bike mechanic. Most of my wrench turning has been on big green farm equipment and old chevys.
Thanks,
JB
bdbecker 03-22-2010, 02:44 PM I know you didn't ask for opinions, but I say don't mess with the baffles, just leave them in. You won't be happy with how the bike sounds - for some reason Vic's always sound like trash with straight pipes.
diamondrmp 03-22-2010, 04:10 PM Two things
First and I'm sorry to say this. The Vic swepts are absolutely the worse pipes. Plenty have done dyno on them and they rob power.
Second, removing the baffles will rob more HP except on the top end. Part of the design of the motor is for some back pressure from the exhaust. You take away the backpressure you take away HP and TQ.
blkvegas07 03-30-2010, 11:30 AM I called my Victory shop about this. I have a stage 1 kit and wont need to remap the engine. I removed one baffle and it sounds great. I havent noticed any loss of power either. Let me know your thoughts.
twsdtcain 03-30-2010, 01:14 PM great info. Thanks
Wonder if I can do this on my crossroads with the stock pipes?
diamondrmp 03-30-2010, 08:01 PM The dyno will show the loss and you may feel it when you remove both baffles. I don't know of anyone that did not lose down low when they removed them.
sallzy 04-01-2010, 02:59 PM if swepts are the worst, what are the best for hp gains?
diamondrmp 04-01-2010, 07:39 PM The best pipes for HP and TQ are 2 into 1 design. There are a few different manufacturers that make them for Victory.

Not sure what bike you were listening to? I had straight pipes with baffles removed and it sounded great on my '05 Hammer! Recently my bike was hit and I had to have the pipes replaced with the exact same straight pipes, and I will be removing the baffles A.s.A.P... I will dyno before I remove the baffles and let you know the before/after results. I vote for setting your straight pipes free!!
cheers

LOL...you have HDitis. :ltr: HD riders are of that mentality.
Vics are much more modern engineered bikes. The proof will be in the dyno.
As far as sound goes its all a matter of a person's preference. I like the sound of my Shotguns without the baffles but really noticed by the seat of the pants the power I lost. So I went with the Thunder Baffles.
BradT 04-02-2010, 05:14 PM Remove the little bolt on the back side and start the bike Rev it up and they will work there way out.
Went for a ride today and noticed the baffle was falling out. Only a couple miles from home. Pushed it back in a couple time on the way home. Got a get a new and better bolt LOL
Baffle is about 15" long and has to be rotated and turned as it comes out or goes back in

I recently bought a 08 Vegas 8 Ball with Vic swepts on it. Unfortunately at this point and time I cant afford to get new exhaust so I ordered Thunder baffles to replace Vic swept baffles. Do I need to remove pipes to get old baffles out? what is the screw type that hold in existing baffles? when I put in the new Thunder baffles with new set screw do I need to do anything else? Thunder tells me to drill in new hole for set screw, what do I do with old hole?
MSchneid 05-12-2010, 08:04 AM I looked at mine yesterday and there are two set screws (one for each pipe) on the back side. Mine are right in front of the swing arm and difficult to get to, I couldn't see if they were philips, star or hex screws. Like BradT said just take that screw out and you can work the baffle out. I am not famililiar with the Thunder baffle but it may have a bigger set screw or one in a different location. I would look at drilling the stock one out at the end facing toward the engine rather than buying a different baffle. Just my opinion.
diamondrmp 05-12-2010, 11:53 AM Its a star SECURITY screw. It has the little tab in the center.
