Has anyone installed the iPod cable on their cross country? Where are people mounting their iPod's? Saddlebag? Handlebars?

It mounts in your right bag. iPOD is a must. Radio reception is not very good especially in the country.

So how does the audio extension cord run from the iPod cord in the fairing to the iPod in the right saddlebag?

I had them install it when I bought my XC. Glad I did. Works great. It's definitely a nice feature to be able to have it charge while riding and being able to scroll through songs or playlists, from the controls on the handlebar. I definitely think it is priced "a little high", in the long run a worthwhile investment.

wether you put an ipod or do what i did and tossed my sat radio in the saddlebag, the audio is fantastic. i installed a 3 way 12v power port in the right side bag and ran my aux cable and sat antenae thru the rubber grommet up under the side of the tank and into the aux plug-in(behind headlight) and the sat antenae is velcro's to brake resevoir. awesome reception. if you use the fm modulator from the siriius the audio is at about half and doesnt sound near as good. i used to have to have the fm dialed in and radio at full blast. now it rocks at half way!

If I'm understanding correctly, the iPod interface charges as well as plays through the sound system? I'm considering trading in the Goldwing for a Cross Country and I'm concerned that the CB, iPod interface, XM, intercom won't work as nicely together as I'm used to. So many details.

I installed mine a couple of weeks ago and it's worth every penny. You control it through the standard radio interface, plays through the speakers, of course, and charges my iPhone, too. I don't have the CB or intercom so I can't tell you about that.

I also have a Goldwing and the Icom sucks. There are no adjustments to the intercom. You can not turn up/down the intercom and there is no vox control. My Ultra intercom is much better than the GW.
From what I have read/researched. You need the CB to incorporate the intercom. The Factory wired headsets have volume controls on the plug for the headsets. I do not remember for sure but I also think it has a vox control which is whats wrong with the GW intercom.

I will be using my XC for the short trips -under 500 miles or just over night. My GW/Ultra are my touring bikes. My GW is my IBA bike.

Does anyone have the instructions for the Ipod install in the saddlebag for the cross country?

I purchased the cables but they came with the instructions for the vision (same part #). Any help would be appreciated.

Mine did to.
The extension cable will have the instructions you will need. The IPod connection is pretty straight forward.
Just make sure you fix the extension cable as where it will not get close to the belt pulley. The IPod connects to the extension cable outside of the saddle bag. The rubber seal plugs the hole.

Flip a few pages into the directions...the XC ones are in the back. they are very good. (the pictures suck though) play with the routing a litte under the seat. you'll want to ensure your cable is well insulated if it crosses anything sharp. On first use...ensure your ipod is in shuffle mode AFTER you start her up. As for model...I understand the first generation ones dont handle vibrations so well. go with 2nd and newer generation. I picked up a 3rd gen NANo real cheap through AMAZON.

On another note...whebn you buttton up the tank...ENSURE you get thatr pesky fuel line snapped in ALL the way. I posted on my "ahem", experience with that, awhile back.

Hands down, it was a great upgrade. First I just went with the short ipod cable, and velcro'd my ipod to the dash. After a couple trips of worrying about it being forgotten at stops, I sprang for the audio extension cable and mounted in the saddle bag.

Happy ridin'...Mike

Thank you, I did not get past the first page. It worked well; easy install. Bike is less than a week old; completed two upgrade so far, flip windshield and Ipod connector. I believe a back rest will be next.

JC,

The driver back rest enhances the comfort of the XC, IMHO. I've had the back rest since day one and I always ride with it. Just over one month in the saddle with 1400 miles on the ticker, this machine is a blast to ride.

As another member said, this is a by product of the Victory XC: :D

Roger. The backrest is an easy decision; the challenge will be the exhaust upgrade. When I put the stage kit on my kingpin, the bike was suddenly awoken and felt really good. However it was a bit loud. I am looking for similar power (low end torque) without the the noise.
Most treads here discussed the noise level but provided very few details on the performance.thumb up

Agreed. I'm looking to go with an exhaust upgrade, but I haven't decided on which set up is best for the XC.

There was a thread not too long ago that had some graphs that measured HP/Tq levels w/stock pipes vs. D&D vs. RPW. I would really like to hear the D&D and RPW in person before I choose. thumb up

The weather today is wicked nice! Happy 4th of July all. cheers

Cocur. Besides the price ($ 800.00 installed from the local stealer) what are the drawbacks on the Stage 1?

I would go with the Atom bomb if i could hear them in person. The price is very attractive but I do not want excessive noise.

Just installed my iPod cables tonight and wow! It was easy to do and with the help of a friend I did it with out completely taking gas tank off. This is a great addition to anybike and to be able to control iPod through the audio controls is frickin badass. Lovin this bike more and more each time I climb aboard it.

Did you purchase the extension cable also? Did the cable come with instructions?

Pull off the chrome headlight ring by hand. It just clips in. Take out the four bolts holding the headlight in and remove headlight. Unplug the headlight's. Find where the extension wire plugs in (mine was over off to the right side as you sit on the bike). Feed the wire back under the tank (after lifting the tank by removing seat and bolts at back of tank). The most tricky part is to reach under the back of the tank and squeeze the tabs on the coupling for the fuel line to remove it from the tank. Some people choose to disconnect the tab behind the right cheese wedge.

Route the extension cable back toward the right saddlebag. Find the plug in the bag and remove it. Be careful to not route the cable over something that will did into it and ruin it. Route the iPod cable through the bag to the extension cable. Plug in iPod and have tunes.

I went with an 32GB iTouch so I can access the webernet to check my email when I find a wifi connection. Mostly though; it just stays in the bag. Some people choose to mount it behind the right side cover. Different strokes for different folks...

I tried the standard MP3 player for a while but it needed to be stopped and started by hand every time and it needed to be recharged constantly. The fact that iPod can just be forgotten about unless you want to add or remove tunes; is what really makes it ideal IMHO.

Upgrading the speakers is not a bad idea either. Just make sure you use 4 ohm speakers. For a while everyone thought they were 2 ohm like the HD's but they aren't. The 2 ohm speakers will work but they aren't the right ones. I went with Kicker speakers. Much clearer sound. Almost impossible to get a lot of base out of the sound system but an amp will help make it better if that's your thing.

NASCAR6 here on *** does Ana awesome upgrade to your stock exhaust! Love mine! Just search for him...$200 and approx $60 shipping and you get an awesome exhaust that sounds amazing. Sample sound in n YouTube though it does not do it justice!

Yes he does and although this isn't the ***; your point is well taken.

Being someone with beer tastes on a water budget; I need to look at all options to make sure my few duckets go as far as possible and the Nascar6 (Jon) re-cored mufflers are well made by a fellow Vic rider one at a time. As much as I'd like to go with the D&D mufflers because I know in my heart they are the best available on the market today; I'll end up going with the very good but second best re-core's Jon does. (sorry Jon. Just sayin' I think I'd like the lower decibel sound of the D&D's)

I managed to score a set of stock mufflers at a reasonable price so getting those mufflers re-cored is next on my list. Before I can mount them though; I need to get a PC-V and a decent MAP and/or an Auto Tune to go with it.

After that, within the next couple of years, a set of VM-1 cams to complete the package.

Sometimes I'm envious of others who can do this all at once but never jealous. I figure good things like this are worth waiting for and as I'm on my 15th bike now with none of the others holding a candle to this one in the handling, suspension, and reliability departments (but the Jackpot before it was reliable and handled fantastic too. Just didn't have the suspension I needed with my screwed up back, eh); it's really worth investing in Victory's and hanging on to them indefinitely.

Still have a deep love and affection for all the other bikes before this one though and my favorite was the '69 Shovel (http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z133/netbob928_photos/Bikes/OldBlue.jpg)with the '65 Pan (http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z133/netbob928_photos/Bikes/Keppy65Pan.jpg) before that one. No going back though right!

Ok, so much for digressing, and thanks for putting up with it. :D
