I just took delivery on a 2011 Kingpin 8-Ball. When in Neutral with engine running and clutch pulled in, sounds fine. When I let out the clutch (engine running), it sounds like gears grinding. 51 miles on it now, does this mean a trip back to the dealer? Also it clunks pretty loud between gears.

Nature of the beast for a Vic tranny. they do not use synchronizers on the clusters, and the gears rattle a little in Neutral with the clutch out.

Clank on shift is pretty much for the same reason. These things are tough as nails, but they do have some idiosyncrasies

Thanks Kevinx. I'll get use to it, and I am not in N often. But the transmission is loud when shifted, maybe louder than my old Softail.

You don't have to deal with replacing chain "tensioners" on the Vic. thumb up

650 miles later and I am used to the tranny noise. At the 500 mile service, the mechanic showed me how the sound was transferring and amplifying thru the hollow swing-arm (8-Ball).
At high speed, the Kingpin handles much better than my HD Softail.
I miss second every now and then and hit N, but it is rare. I wonder why the gear indicator can not show 1st while clutch is in. There have been times when I have stopped and thought I was in 1st, but was in 2nd.
I was quite impressed with the sound of the stock pipes when I stood behind it and let someone else twist the throttle.

If ever in doubt, shift it up to neutral, and back down to 1st once you've stopped. thumb up
