vindex1963 11-24-2011, 11:16 AM I am an armature photography hobbyist and I'm sure there are others here also. I'm starting a thread for random photos, tips, tricks and so on.
I use a Nikon D300 as my main camera and my trusty old Nikon D40. The D300 pretty much has a Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 lens on it all the time and the D40 has a Tamron 70-300mm VC lens on it most of the time. I have various lenses and other gear.
Here is my first sample.
Cloudy day here in Phoenix on Thanksgiving.

I see you're using photobucket. I stopped using them a long time ago because the quality is terrible. Flickr is so much better IMHO.

visionjohnny 11-24-2011, 12:43 PM I bought a cannon just after I bought my vision its a ok camera for me and I'm always amazed how good my photos do come out.
When I work on the bike the camera is always close by just for that one photo that might help the next guy work on his bike. I just love the way i can stick the card into the computer and now i have a permit record of what I did.

ridinman 11-24-2011, 02:22 PM Fun idea for a thread.
I've been lots of places and taken some nice photos.
I know nothing of photography, but was playing with the Nikon S9100 my sweetie got me for my birthday. The subject is Maroon Bells park just outside Aspen Colorado. We went on a weekend tour of the Aspens.
I played with the color filters in the camera in these shots.
scuba1988 11-24-2011, 03:20 PM I have a kodak z162 and I almost never ride without it.
Will post a couple of my shots when I learn more about how to do it.

Know them all well!!!
Been up to Summerhaven (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Summerhaven,_Arizona)on Mt. Lemmon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mount_Lemmon)?
Mingus Mtn is what 189 curves in 10 miles or something like that. :)
jokerman 11-27-2011, 09:32 PM One of my favorite places. So glad I had a boat to explore this treasure. The first pic was not cropped. I screwed up & left the wrong lens hood on. Really liked the results, though.

ftwflh 11-28-2011, 07:45 AM I miss using my old trusty Nikon FM2 35mm.But my eyes arent as good as they once were and I can focus as good.Been thinking my next toy will be a Nikon D300 but have to come up with the cash.I have a Nikor 50mm autofocus lens on my FM2 wonder if that would work on a newer camera. Also have ProSpec 70-210 zoom and a Sakar 28mm wide angle. These are old but work great.Havent used them in a few yrs film developing is getting rare and expensive.
Best investment you can make is a good light meter.I use a Gossen Luna ProF. Wish I hadnt sold all my lighting.
I can tell some dandy stories with pics to prove them from my past 40yrs of biking.
But technology got me again. The digital age change the way pics are done. For now I am using a Sony point shoot but it does ok for Ebay pics but lacks the control for cool stuff.

The 50mm AF lens will work on the D300 I have both. The D300 will meter the old manual lenses also so no light meter is needed. New cameras are the greatest.
Expect to give +-$800 for a low shutter count D300.
My wife took this a couple of years ago and is my favorite pic.

Try using a light meter and not use the internal built in one.You will be surprised at what you can do and what the effects are.The built in meter on my old FM2 does ok but you can get more control with a handheld meter.
I am saving up and do expect to have to drop about a grand but it is well worth the price.

Not necessarily. My wife is a painter and I notice the same types of mundane, inanimate objects are the focus for a lot of paintings and photos.
I figured there was a legitimate reason behind it, but myself, I'm more of a Salvador Dali type of art fan. I want to observe something that makes me wonder what kind of drugs the artist was on when he drempt up his creations.

It's been years since I was down there. I think it was 2007 or 2008 since I was there. We did cheap winter golf trips to Jekyll for at least 6 years prior to that. I don't remember for sure if we ever went over that bridge or not but I'm thinking we did the last year.

Bzippi 02-13-2012, 08:52 PM 80-200 push pull? The high speed drive is a battery grip right? I have my D300 gripped also.
Yes, the drive is the battery grip. There was one on the camera I tested, and it really helps add some balance and stability with the longer, heavier lenses. The 80-200 I'm getting has the dual knurled rings instead of the push-pull (this one below).

Canon's are excellent and I'm a Nikon guy. The extra 55-250 is good to have as long as it also comes with an 18-55. Looks like it might.
I would compare it (http://www.dpreview.com/products/compare/side-by-side?products=nikon_d5100&products=canon_eos550d&sortDir=ascending)to a Nikon D5100 and they are really neck and neck except you get the long zoom (http://photo.net/equipment/canon/efs_55-250IS/)and it looks to be good also. IS (image stabilization) is key in long zooms.
Looks like a good deal to me.
