: Cowl Flyscreen Installed
GOOT-Z 12-10-2011, 05:09 PM I finally bit the bullet and had the flyscreen that accepts the Hammer cowl installed and I think I like it. It does relieve 60+ mph wind pressure on my chest, but it was so cold on the way home that I didn't have much patience with trying to judge how much if any of the diverted wind was hitting my helmet. Put it this way: It wasn't noticeable, but I wasn't craning my neck to feel where it hit me, either!
I think it is canted back a bit far, so in the spring, I'll loosen it and increase the angle a bit more upright (maybe to compliment the V-angle of the headlight bucket that used to pair with the V shear angle of the OEM exhaust pipes...yes, some of us notice this stuff!).
I have an extra ($192) cowl with only 2/3 legs that was busted while the bike was on the showroom floor. So, I think I'll put that back on the pillion and put the new 3/3 one up front, just to be sure I don't get a 2/3-leg surprise at 70 mph.

[Sorry for the clutter in the pic, but we have snow now.]
bigseadaddy 12-15-2011, 05:59 PM maybe its the angle but that is the oddest shaped cowl I have seen... You got another pic from the side????

Bike is now covered and buried behind boat, etc. but here is a profile shot with a mixed background. Trust me, its the striping that gave the illusion of it being square.

vindex1963 12-15-2011, 07:52 PM Wondering is that for looks or will it help with wind?

See my limited Demo comment above. I do not especially like the looks of it (I like clean machines), but I do appreciate the wind diversion above 60 mph.
vindex1963 12-15-2011, 08:42 PM You did and I missed it. Thanks.

Your totaly on point... I could have sworn it was square but from the side it looks good.
I for one like mini cowls. I have always loved the hot rodded Dyana with the mini fairings.... yes like the one on SOA but without the drama and retards riding them.. :ltr:
Zeus Boron 12-18-2011, 08:20 AM Hi Goot-Z, Thanks for posting the pics of the flyscreen. I think it looks pretty good. I've been wanting to do that myself. Think I'll go ahead and do it. Is the hardware a dealer kit? I like the 2into1 pipe. Looks sharp!
vindex1963 12-18-2011, 08:50 AM This is why I was asking. Found one at a price I couldn't pass on.

Hi Zeus, yup, it's a dealer kit that includes the multi-adjustable frame etc. It is shown here--at least the screen--how crappy are the Victory parts displays? No clue from them how it really looks.

The black screen with holes in it looks rather "unfinished" (but not awful on a black bike), so I opted to put the cowl up there permanently. As I mentioned, I have an extra cowl because the rear (pointy end) leg broke off of mine on the showroom floor (lesson:Lift evenly with both hands) and they got me a new one. Because of the wind pressure/lift, I'm going to put the new 3-legged one up front and put the 2/3 legged one behind me, back on the seat. If you want to spring for a new one, it is $192; painted and striped. My dealer does 10% off for customers, so that meets internet pricing.
Only caution: My installation took longer than anticipated because, for some reason, the included black kit bolts were not long enough for my forks (!!??), and they had to scrounge around for two BLACK bolts of the correct length. They found a couple, but I'm glad they solved that mystery rather than yours truly. :p

So, Vindex, does that provide any relief? That hardware (chrome) looks less complicated than the adjustable bridgework on mine, but can't be sure from pic. Is that OEM or after market? Thx.
JoeyB 01-19-2012, 09:30 PM When I ordered my bike from the dealer I had him order the flyscreen at the same time. When I picked up my bike the dealer had installed it already. They mounted mine more upright than yours. I think the shield does a great job of blocking the wind. I didn't such a small shield would do so much. I don't care for the looks of a bigger screen on a hammer but I like the looks of the Flyscreen on them (plus it gives you somewhere to store the seat cowl)

Sorry I missed your post. Yes it does. It creates a dead air space from about your shoulders down so you don't get the chest push.
