I was raised in Elkhart from ages 6-16 out on Little Simonton Lake from 1963-1973. Simonton Lake, was to me, the ABSOLUTE BEST PLACE to grow up during those years!
The Lake wasn't yet "built-up" much with a lot of houses and there was TONS of woods and swamps and hills to "cut your teeth" on. We left before the GasCrunching RV crash and moved to the chicago area, but I still consider Elkhart as the best place in the world for a kid to grow up!
