Hi everyone. I am new to the site and sure this has been asked a bunch. Can I expect problems with this trans eventually? I have owned it for 2 years and put on about 4000 miles. Bike has 13600 miles.

There were a few different recalls to address those issues. Basically the (depending on date built) front sprocket assembly and rear sprocket damper assembly would have been replaced. If the recalls were done before 3rd gear was damaged you might be in the clear. The key is to let the RPM's fall a bit before releasing the clutch after a shift into 3rd/4th. I wouldn't worry unless you are having false neutrals when shifting, or it pops out of gear right after shifting. I wouldn't even worry about the occasional problem. Only when it happens frequently. From everything I have found the ones that had the tranny's rebuilt have the biggest chance of a second failure. Call a dealer with your VIN. They should be able to tell you if it had the rebuild kit.

I have experienced the jump out out 3rd gear when really winding it out. I thought maybe it was me just getting a little to happy to even go faster. If i drive normally,{hard to sometimes}, it shifts just fine. Heard comments like it looks industiral, looks like a refridgerator on wheels. I love this bike. Thanks for the info.

What you describe sounds "normal" to me. Mine does the same thing. As long as it doesn't do it all the time it's fine. Check with your local dealer though. Still several recalls outstanding (including sprocket assembly's) that will be fixed for free.

If your ever in Johnstown for Thunder in the Valley PM me!

Early victorys had problems with the transmissions. 99-00 years are the worst in 01 Victory put a cush drive on the rear sprocket to fix a soft 3rd gear issue. I have a 2000 V92SC and my transmission took a dump the symptoms were it would pop out of third gear all the time it started with the same thing you are going through now. There are a number of fixes none of them cheap but they are cheaper then a new used bike. These motors are bullet proof many victorys have a 100k miles. I went with the route of getting a Freedom engine 2002-2005 V92 motor and installed. This route took care of the transmission problem and at the same did the charging upgrade. The other option is Victory has a kit that as of last year was still available cost about 1400 and another 1500 or so to install. my cost with the freedom was under 2000 I got a good deal on ebay on parts and the motor. I would get in touch with VicBuilder he has all the scoop and has the skills to swap the motor or install the transmission kit. Not all early victorys had transmission problems many are still on the road with no problems

My 1999 v92c transmission.

My 99 v92c has 5400 original miles. The transmission hits harder then Kimbo Slice. I contacted the Victory dealer in Dayton, Ohio about recalls and he stated that Polaris did a recall on my bikes transmission but my particular bike "did" qualify but I or the previous owner rather had missed the deadline. The dealer did say I could petition Polaris to honor it since I was not the owner at the time the recall was posted. There are service records indicating that my bike did receive some recall work but for some reason the transmission was not one of them. Wish me luck and I will keep you all up to date.

Im getting a little nervous now. I bought the bike last year with 8,000 on it. It's a 99. This year I got it out just a week ago and have experienced it popping out of gear a couple times, or also after I upshift into 2nd it doesnt go into gear. I adjusted the clutch cable and it seemed to shift better but then it jumped out of gear again one more time. I've know of the tranny issues so I've always been easy on the shifting. I brought mine into a dealer last summer for a starter and the checked the TSB's on it. My bike didn't qualify for the new drive pulleys apparently, wrong number stamped on it. I did however get a new kickstand that i didnt have a problem with LOL. I looked at the history he printed and saw a few things on there, fuel sending unit (which my gauge seems to be a gallon off) and something with the throttle body IIRC. Nothing about the transmission was on there nor did it come up, this was before I knew of the known tranny issues so i didnt even ask.

transmission update

I spoke with a rep at Victory. If I want to have the tyranny looked at I can take it to a dealer and they will take the trans apart to see if it is faulty, if it is they will split the cost of the tranny upgrade but I would be responsible for the labor. My stamp is not on the trans recall list either. My cost.... Wait for it..... About $2700.

2700? It doesn't sound to me like they are kicking in anything. I was Quoted 2900 for the complete job 2 years ago and that included the upgrade kit and labor. Where are you located? You may want to get a second quote from another dealer.

You can do a freedom swap for less then that. I did my freedom swap for right around $2000. I did a lot of searching on ebay and the web to get good deal on parts and when ordering parts find a dealer that will give you a *** discount.

Good Luck.
