The BMW 1600 and the FJR as well are pretty heavy. I'd want something a bit lighter and more sporty.
You might try the BMW R1200RT. Having had one I believe they are hard to beat. They are pricey and scheduled maintenance can be high.
The Kawasaki Concours is also great and the new Triumph Trophy has received great reviews.
You also mentioned an adventure tourer.
The BMW R1200 GS is the one to have. It's can easily be set up for long distance touring. You have to have long legs though since it sits pretty high.
Go have fun riding all of them.
I switched to a XCT because I'm 75 and legs were getting numb in the foot position required on all the ones I mentioned.
Hard to beat the long floorboards on the XCT or Vision.
