The idea behind inverting the forks is that there is less unsprung mass for the suspension to deal with. IOW, in the case of normal forks, the suspension not only has to compensate for the mass of the wheel, brakes, tire, but also aluminum case on the fork that houses the spring. The less unsprung mass, the cheaper/lighter the suspension needs to be to make it compliant.
