I was just looking at the diagram for the saddlebags in the XR/XC shop manual and saw something interesting. The gasket in the picture shows the top part flared up, kind of like a wing. The two "lips" on my gaskets are both pushed down but it looks like the top part is supposed to sticking up. I guess this helps keep out some debris/water but still wouldn't help with my left saddlebag, still too much of a gap.
