I think he's a firefighter (from a previous post, if my memory serves me right). On top of that, the evap canisters have been known to fall off the bikes, so in the interest of keeping our highways clean, it's probably best to remove it and place it on a garage shelf than dump it on the highway when it decides to come off.

I'd just leave them hanging, but you can plug them too if you wish. It won't make a difference other than give you added piece of mind that nothing will crawl up those hoses.
