If it fails again, about the only thing I can think of is an internal short in a harness somewhere that I cant find or isolate.

Good luck keep us informed.

OR one of the sensor's providing input is fried somehow. Just going off my wiring chart since I don't know what yours is like but assuming that it is taking similar inputs... I would unplug sensors and try a fuse before replacing the ECU... Just a thought... Like you said, something is causing the short to ground.

I unplugged everything on this bike that I could remove from the system with the same result. I too figured a sensor could be the culprit, but none I have isolated have proved to make a difference. I found an ECM for $60 so I guess you could say at this point that it's a fairly cheap gamble.

Just an update on my electrical problems.
After heavy diagnostics and isolating every circuit, I decided to gamble that the problem was the most simple and obvious. I bought another ECM off of Feebay. Got a good price....$60.
Plugged that sucker in, crossed my fingers and turned the key........YeeeHawww!! No blown fuses, and she fires up again!

As Rylan advised, I guess these ECMs do occasionally fry. Now I just hope I don't fry this one.... so far so good. Thanks to all who replied with suggestions. Now if we can just extend this ridiculously warm winter we're having in Texas so I can put a few miles on her.

Why do you say this?

If it was pulling enough current to blow a 10A fuse, something on your ECM's circuit card was getting really HOT. You could jump the fuse and feel around for the hot part (probably the processor), but if it's some standard part, you could always replace it and put it up on Feebay to recoup a few bucks. Though $60 ain't such a bad price to get such a thorough education of your bike.

Have you tried unplugging both the stator wires, and the regulator wires? Maybe the jump from the car fried either or both of them.

Jumping from a car is very risky. You can do it with the car off, but I still don't feel it is very safe. Jumping from a running car will most certainly cause problems. I have seen also accidentally hooking up the battery backwards, or grounding the positive side of the circuit as reasons for ECM failure, or electrical problems.

Other than that, a good electrical diagram is a must. I have the fold out map style diagrams and they never translate well over e-mail, sorry.

Good luck...
See someone knows what is going on...
