Your missing the point . The constitution give us the right to bear arms . You are going against that , not upholding it like you swore to do
Where the hell did you get that idea? I'm not against the right to own a gun. But technically, the Constitution says you have the right to do it as part of a militia. You see, back when that was written, there was no money or desire to maintain a permanent standing army. When Paul Revere came a callin you were supposed to go do your duty then get back to business. That was before it became a lucrative career path.
I hate to deflate your bubble, but the military *IS* the gov't.
There are a few countries around the world where the military is the government - it's called a military dictatorship, just like the one Saddam Hussein ran in Iraq, and just like the one Kim Il-sung runs currently in North Korea.

Blest with victory and peace, may the heav'n rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation.
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: "In God is our trust."
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

Yes, the constitution encouraged us to join a militia and for defending yourself against bears and robbers you were supposed to throw rocks...
Maybe the freedom of speech wasn't what it meant either - maybe it mean you have freedom of speech when you're home, and nobody's around to hear you.

Oh will the ridiculous misconceptions ever end? Apparently, public education really is lousy these days...
Dept of Commerce is the gov't. It doesn't run the country. The EPA is the gov't. It doesn't run the country either. Dept of Education ditto. And while the military is the gov't here in the USA it does not run the country either. Though for a while during the Bush/Cheney regime I was waiting for them to institute Martial law (military law) due to the threat of terrorism.

You do not have the "right" to possess a car. It is a privilege. Similarly, guns for bear protection could be a privilege that could be taken away for things like being a felon or a drug addict. Oh wait, we already do that! Some call out the Lance/Bbob militia and send them to our rescue!

Shout "fire" in a crowded theater and see how "free" you are afterward.

So, after insinuating I am dumb (thank you saddlebag), please shed some light into how the Department of Education is the government. I cannot wait to hear it, so I can congratulate my wife, a teacher, on her promotion. By the way, is the Department of Transportation also the government? How about the Department of Consumer Affairs?
