I just got my 07 regular Hammer and am going to start modding it slowly. I know from my last bike that FWD controls and handle bar risers made a huge difference in terms of comfort and my ability to handle the bike (improved manuverability).
I'm just about content with the handle bars on the hammer in terms of hight, but wouldn't mind pulling them back a bit. So I'll probably do a 1 or 2 inch riser for the stock handle bars. Wonder who here has done this and what was your opinion on the outcome, as in how that changed the handling of the bike. I don't want to raise them too much because I know that makes handling too sensitive and sloppy.
I think forward controls would really help to "secure" me on the bike for when I want to run it like I stole it. I saw 2,4, and 5 inch options, and was thinking about doing the 4 inch. It would also be very helpful to hear from someone who has done fwd controls and how you liked the results.
I'm 6ft, so i'm not going to have any trouble reaching the pegs, but still would rather not overshoot to where it's an uncomfortable stretch.
I am 6 ft with and got 2 inch extentions but need to do 4 if not 5 inch ALSO im wondering if the real forward controls extend that far The ones that are $999 I know they go about an inch up which I need for turning better but dont know how far forward they go ?????

My understanding is that the 8 ball version of the hammer has foot controls 2 inches behind my regular hammer. The hammer s is 2 inches forward from mine, so 4 inches forward from yours. I did read somewhere that the hammer s contols are higher up compared to yours and mine and tend to scrape the ground less during hard turns.
Since you did the 2 inch kit, your contols are in the same location as my stock controls, so you probably need the 4 inch kit to have the hammer s setup. Doing the 5 inch kit in your case might be just the ticket, cuz youll be just 1in further than hammer s.
I really hope someone who has the 4 or 5in kit on a regular hammer chimes in.
I think the "S" bars are pulled back 2" and I've read it really helps the bikes handling. Not sure if they come in chrome though.

I have read the same thing too, and that is why I'm thinking that two inch risers might accomplish a similar thing, although with not as much pulback. Risers would also help with turning the bike, as the taller location of the bars gives you more leverage. Since, I like the regular hammer bars better than the hammer s, I want to keep them.
I have decided to hold off on handle bar risers.... for now.
But I really need fwd controls. Just really can't decide between 2 and 4inch. Has no one here done the 4inch extension kit? I really would nove to know how that changes the bike. For better or worse I wonder what might be some drawbacks of this mod?! Anyone?!
Took the bike out for a 160 mile cruise today and was really impressed with the changes. I feel like I have much better control of the bike, especially in turns, I feel like I am better strapped into the bike and I like the more upright and fairly relaxed seating position. I was able to ride a bit further without a break than previosuly because due to these changes the seat didn't seem to bother me so much anymore (the stock seat still sucks however).
The only downside to these mods is that due to the more upright seating pisition you catch more wind on the highway and have to put more effort into holding on to the handle bars, especially around 90-100mph. Also, now i feel like I need a wider foot peg since my feet are more forward and there is a little more pressure on the legs and the ball of my foot. Im looking into aftermarket ones already.
Overall, I think it was well worth while, they made the bike more comfortable for me with better control. I'm 6ft tall btw, just in case anyone cares, I feel like for shorter guys, these mods might be too much leg stretch and handle bar rise, so just fyi.
