Default FS 1987 Kawasaki Voyager XII - very nice!

Selling my deceased brother's very nice 1987 Kawasaki Voyager 12. You may not be interested, but maybe you know someone who would like to have it. It has all the usual full boat touring bike goodies; radio, CB, etc.. And the mods have been made recommended from 1986 model, very clean, new Progressive non-air shocks front and rear, 38,000 miles, Bridgestone Spitfire III TIRES w/less than 1,000 miles on them, Battery Tender, Draco exhaust, has been ridden regularly and is ready to go. Resides in Portland, OR. A lot of bike for only $1,500. Did I say it is very, very nice?

If I recall correctly, they were the fastest production bike when they first came out. Kawasaki ended up detuning the engine on later models.

The engine is a "detuned" Ninja transverse four and very strong and smooth. The color is two-tone gold/tan. It has a unique two part center stand that makes putting the bike up on it very light work. I didn't set the price, my "brother-in-law" did. The reason for the quotes is Greg married my brother's widow and continued to care for and ride the bike. Greg is a very nice guy and OCD like me. He took excellent care of the bike, got onto the Voyager forums and made suggested upgrades--you know how that goes. Greg is also a private pilot and bought his second plane, leaving no time to ride anymore. He doesn't really need the money, he's good in that department and that's why its so cheap.

I remember for the longest time, Kawasaki did nothing to change this bike for years, only the paint colors. The price remained the same for many years until they discontinued it. I think it was $12,300 or $12,900 or something like that.

Warranty repair on a then new 99 BMW, all the dealer had for me to ride was one of those.

This thing had close to 300 K on it, every plastic or vinyl was faded , cracked, chipped or torn. The only thing that "worked" was the speedo, the cases / all metal parts were either rusty or pitted.

The damn thing ran like a top brakes were great, and the really weird part....not a rattle on it.

The dealer apologized for having nothing else....even offered to take me home. Afterwards I said hell no that was an experience I can tell for years.

It laid around the dealer 'forever' when the dealer closed up [caused by a divorce] it brought $100 at auction I'm told....that should tell ya something.

That was the case with the Yamaha Venture too. I guess they were surrendering to Honda's Goldwing. Too bad, cos the first gen Venture (from '87 on) handled better, had greater lean angle. had more case capacity and sold for less than the 'wing at that time.

I had an 84 Venture and rode it hard for 20 years. Never a problem with it. Half the time I was pulling a trailer with it. They ran circles around the Wing and that was at 50 miles to the gallon, I wish I had kept it to go alone side of the Vic in the garage. Oh well moving on.

Before my Goldwing, I was the proud owner of a 1987 Suzuki Cavalcade LXE. From 86 to 89, only 8500 bikes were sold. Probably because they were more expensive than the top-of-the-line Harley at the time. Had 40,000 miles on it when I bought it in 1999, and traded it in on the Goldwing in 2004 with 90,000 miles.

Big, comfy bike. V4, 1400cc
Very reliable (except for the stator).
