Back when I was around 49, I realized that just riding a bicycle a few times a week was not going to be enough exercise as I aged. I wanted to be in better shape than ever as I approached age of 50. I got involved in my local Y and within a few months had joined a group early each morning doing some cross-training. Fast-forward a couple of years and I was in the best shape of my life.
Then, I got my first motorcycle. I continued my exercise program but after a few years got burned out. The early morning plan eventually stopped so I would exercise some after work and before I knew it, I had stopped altogether for about a year. I’d come home and jump on the motorcycle. I knew that I did not need to let riding be my excuse for not doing some type of exercise.
I’m 56 and jumping back on the program. I just joined a Planet Fitness locally. While I realize it has all the equipment I need to get back into the shape I need to be in, I also know that being active at work is also key. I’m walking twice outdoors daily and do not sit for long since I am in an office.
I have all the motivation that I need. People that I know around my age are dropping dead. People that I know who are fairly wise and take care of their bodies are doing very well. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to understand how to have a better quality of life.
We all have to restrain ourselves from the bad indulgences and just use common sense.
Hey! There are no guarantees in life but I should at least attempt to make an effort to be around for my grandkids. Able to walk, pick them up, be some type of example to them. They do remember! I don’t have any yet but hope I get the chance to spoil them rotten.
