Exclamation The madness ensues.

We better hope solar panels, windmills, and hydro-electric power sources become super cheap and bountiful.

I think the operative word is "new" in that line. It may be extended if the technology isn't there by then. Gas and diesel powered vehicles will likely still be on the road for another 50 years or more. Off road and boony vehicles may still be gas.

I'm starting to see more and more e-cars on the road and the hybrids like the Volt.

I seriously doubt I will see that date but a lot of our younger members will.

35 years ago not many could have forecast what we are seeing in our world today. I never believe what the politicians or special interest groups come up with that they don't have to answer for but still, it helps to have some targets. Hopefully many of us here will be around to see if the goals get reached. (Scientist say that the first person to live to 150 years old is already alive and I plan on that being me.)

The environment is a lot like us. It takes a lot more time and effort to get back in shape than it did to get in the abused state. Hopefully it'll be a better place by then.

From what I understand (from old Popular Mechanics articles) an electric vehicle costs so much to produce and maintain that it won't pay for itself in fuel savings for years. Many people don't keep cars long enough to get a return on their investment anyway. Kind of a moot point.
But then again, I'm just an idiot.

That article is very high level and vague. They don't really have a solution as to what will replace today's "gas-powered" vehicles. I only see mention of current sales of electric cars...whooptee dooo!

I find it funny that you never hear about the amount emissions/pollution created by the manufacturing of batteries needed for the electric cars...and what about when these batteries are spent?

I live in a city, county and state that is run by anti car, anti fossil fuel liberals. Funds are diverted from building and maintaining much needed roads to mass transit projects that will never pencil out. Everything is being done to increase traffic jams. Schools teach fossil fuels and hydro power bad; wind and solar good. So those "good" programs get huge subsidies, while the "bad" get taxed or axed. The Oregon legislature recently passed a "low carbon fuels" bill that is a cap and trade carbon tax scheme in wolves clothing. Our bi-sexual, lib governor has put off implementing it because she's up for re-election in November 2016 and there are enough uninformed metrosexuals in urban Oregon to do that. Then she'll put that bill to work with the result being an increase of $1 to $2 a gallon at the pump. And the fuel will have almost enough volatility to run an engine. Sure glad I'm in my dessert years, cuz you young 'uns are in for a world of hurt the way things are going. Can you say E15?
