The worst trans I ever experienced was a 2000 Harley Softail Standard that I rented for a week in San Diego. Every shift sounded like someone smacked the engine case with a 4 pound hammer. It was a brand new bike with 300 miles on it too. I wasn't sure it would last the week...

My friend, Turtle Joe, had a 2007 KP and that bike shifted like buttered glass.

What about an EBR 1190 SX? Seems like it would be a fun bike. A lot like the Superduke.
