I went with three friends from work to Monterey VA yesterday. Took a few back roads from between the Virginia/Maryland boarder and Harrisonburg where we picked up 33 to 220 down to Monterey. Nice roads similar to some roads around here. Checked into the Hotel and started hitting the back roads in the area.
The first road we hit was 250 heading North. That was a really nice road with some great hard turns but we didn't stay on it for very long though. From there we went south through West Virginia. Great scenery but they weren't quite as twisty. Still some really nice roads. Got back to the hotel, ate dinner and just hung out for a while.
The next day however, we went South from Monterey to Staunton on 250. All I can say is I wish there were roads like that around here. Although they were separated by more straightaways , the turns were just as nice as anything I found at Deals Gap. Oh, and if anyone heard reports of two crazy bikers in the area I have no idea what they're talking about
If anyone is in the area I HIGHLY recommend
checking out any part of 250 between Elkins WV and Staunton VA
We did go through Skyline Drive starting at the far southern entrance on the way back. Again nice scenery but we were all ready for a more challenging road by the time we reached highway 33.
Here are some pictures I took along the way including a bear we came across on Skyline Drive.
