Default !!!!! Xoom Xoom Xoom !!!!!

LOL...gotchya.

Thought it was a Mazda ad huh?

A lot of you know I am enrolled at UoP for my degree in IT Networking.

I was looking for a mobile solution for class. I bought a Dell Duo so that I could travel and still do my class work. I wanted something smaller than my heavy Dell XPS 17 inch laptop. Yet it had to have a screen large enough for me to increase font size for my old eyes. I also wanted a touch screen and the ability to play games. lol

Well, I received my Duo last week and after a frustrating week of it not working properly, its herky jerky reaction to the touch screen and then finding out through blogs and my own use that the Duo has an accelerometer issue, I returned it. The accelerometer is what rotates the screen from portrait to landscape and back.

I recently purchased the Motorola Xoom from Verizon. WOW, wow, wow...this thing is awesome. It is responsive, fast and much easier to carry around than the Duo.

One of the main reasons I went with the Duo was I wanted the MS Office for school. I didn't know it was available for the Android platform of the Xoom. I can create edit and post assignments from my Xoom just like on my PCs!

One more pro to the Xoom is battery life. The other day I was on WiFi at home and did my classes on the Xoom this was at 6am. After I finished school I left the WiFi on and pulled up google maps with the GPS/Locations switched on.

I left it on all day. At
9pm when I went to plug in my Xoom for the night and the battery life was at 93%!! That's over 12 hours of WiFi and Google maps running on the battery.

The Xoom costs about the same as the Duo. The only con to the Xoom is you must purchase the data package. Since I mostly rely on WiFi hot spots I opted for the 1GB, $20.00 monthly package.

If you are considering a mobile solution and want a touch screen go to Verizon and get the Xoom. You have 21 days to return it if you don't like it.

If you don't want a data plan, return your Xoom. In just 9 days, Motorola is releasing the Wi-Fi only Xoom - no dataplan required.

The Diamond we know just ordered a new pocket protector and rides with a pair of thick reading glasses on.

Back it goes for the WiFi version.

I don't understand why we can't get the phone enabled versions here like in Japan.

What you can get is a phone with unlimited data, and use tethering to connect your laptop/tablet. With such a setup, you're looking at a $150-200 phone with a $25/mo plan for about 300minutes talk time, and you have unlimited data fed to your tablet, laptop, or other devices.

Btw, the tablet, once online, can make calls via Skype, thus not using any of your minutes.

There's always PDAnet if you don't want to root it.
