Default Hero's 2WD diesel-electric RNT

For those who like to think a bit outside the box and keep up on current and past ideas; this article is for you. Long but well worth the read.

Quote:
Hero Motocorp suddenly seems more than capable of replacing Honda's technology, it also seems capable of producing machinery better suited for the emerging market it currently serves, but also of producing truly ingenious solutions that existing long term manufacturers with deeply-rooted R&D structures could simply never envisage.

Hero Motocorp’s presentation of the RNT hybrid turbo-diesel-electric motorcycle prototype at Auto Expo in New Delhi last week might well begin a whole new phase in the development of the motorcycle as an all-purpose utility vehicle. Most significantly, the RNT offers a range of life solutions well beyond mobility – it's designed to pull a plow or a harvester, carry heavy loads safely and adapt to play a practical role, particularly in rural areas and the developing world.

Yeah I saw that Bbob- don't think Buell was involved with the development of that bike.

I also saw that Eric Buell Racing has been homoligated for WSB racing too- good on Eric. I had a Buell lightning a few years back and it was a great bike. Shame on HD!

Quite a few diesel bikes I had no idea about in that article. This little torque monster should do quite well as the buyers replace current small bikes for work and transpo. I wish it had info on MPG. I disagree with many of the commenters about going solar and pure electric. Batteries need to get much better. Besides, the scooter can also be used to generate 1500 watts of electricity. It's not huge but it could run a pump or something. If they can keep the emissions down; it would make a good inner city scoot too. Obviously these bikes are not made to go fast. They are made to be long life work horses. I could easily see one of these bikes at the camp grounds around Sturgis hauling ice, beer, soda, and whatever was needed although the 4 wheelers they use now is probably better for that. Might be handy to have for someone who brings a truck and/or trailer though. Fit right in the back like the old 90cc Honda's do now.

I don't think the commenter was right about Eric Buell being part of the team to design this either. Could be wrong but it seems like he has had his hands full with his own projects lately.

(late edit); Hero motorcycles sold 6,183,784 motorcycles & scooters in 2013, and below is India's (not Hero's) overall vehicle sales, so Hero had almost 50% of the Indian 2 wheel market.

Good on Eric though- hope he sticks it every way he can to HD...
