Default First 500 miles Outta the Way

took a 584 mile trip yesterday so I could get that first darn oil change outta the way.... WOW does the fuel guage go down quickly!! I was conservative on my speed (65/70/75/80) and my low fuel kicked on at around 47 miles to go. The only thing I hate w/that light is after it comes on it takes away your "miles left" reading? So I guess u better be paying attn to WHEN it comes on so u have an idea of how quickly u need to pull over for fuel. Other than that no problems (other than the wife gettin smacked in the face by a cpl of bugs), I just kept thinking to myself how I wish I had the trailer connected and I was on my way outta town for a "long distance" trip, o well soon enough though

Now I can focus on which pile of "mods" to continue on.... I'm gonna have parts all over the garage, guess I know how my next weekend is going to be spent....

Default Fuel Guage

How many miles are you getting to a tank? I am getting over 200 before the low fuel light comes on. I take my time filling the tank to allow fuel to flow to the other side tank. It takes an extra minute but I know I get another gallon in the tank.

ATGATT because walking away in disgust is better than riding away in an ambulance.

As for how many miles to a tank, well that is a hard one? When I fill up which I also do slowly and to the rim, the computer says 255 till empty, BUT if your do any kinda speed on the highway as I do ( I cant drive 55) which I prob avg at least 80mph, then that fuel estimate is out the window!! But even around 70/75mph I prob get 210 miles?? Ans as I dont use it for a daily rider I cant say what the city mileage would be, Im ALL highway!!

dealer told me today that the issue of the fuel guage going down rather quickly is a "known issue" on the 2010/2011 models and there has been a tech bulletin issued on the subject. There is also a new "float" system that is being installed on the 2011 models which he showed me both old/new and the only difference is a more aggressive bend in the float wire and some other minor tweaks, he said if you have the dealer run your VIN they can tell you which unit you have old/new?? BUT if you have the old, VIC is NOT replacing the old one under a warranty claim?? If it was me I certainly would be putting up a fight w/Vic on that one side note; even though the guage is not accurate the computer is, supposedly...

Motorcycle Consumer News is doing a long term test on the CCT which also has a computer for mileage. Their take on it is that is over optimistic compared to what you actually are getting. No matter, I didn't buy the bike to save of fuel. I bought it to ride the hell out of it.

The computer is not the problem, it is as accurate as can be... the mechanical float is the problem child, which SHOULD BE more accurate of the two Guess I am spoiled w/my 8+ gal fuel tank on the BMW, I just wanna keep on riding and not stop for fuel every 200 miles espicially when on the back roads and the music is just right!!

You must be riding the Texas Hill Country....I always enjoyed coming down Hwy 67 through Glen Rose heading over to Stephenville to US281 headed South through Marble Falls and Blanco. That ride was good for the soul....and reminded me what I loved about Texas.
