Default 2011 Vision break-in period and service

Picking up the new ride in the A.M. and riding back home about 600+ miles. I have reviewed both Lloyds break in recommendations as well as the owners manual and have a pretty good idea about how to execute the ride maintaining a good heat on the engine both prior to start and during, RPMs vs throttle at the correct milage, and decompressing the engine after a climb as I move through the mountains along 81 and 64. (Im rolling from Chattanooga TN to Hampton Roads VA via 40 / 81 / 64 so I do have some mountains to climb.

Any pointers anyone wants to throw out there?

Secondly, I will be past the 500 mile getting home so oil change first thing and not going to stir up the oil change thread. Sticking with Vic for now BUT I was wondering besides verifying the belt tension and alignment am I getting anything else out of the dealer breakin service other than keeping my 5 yr powertrain in shape. Is there anything they are going to do on the flash or such? Before anyone mentions I did do a search... lol.. Just running out of time before heading out tomorrow and want to have everything ready for the return trip so I can continue clocking my miles on the new V... Thanks!

When I bought my 2011 Vision, I had a 6000 mile trip planned. Just rode it like I owned it, but didn't hold the speed and rpms at any one spot for too long for the first 500 miles. Changed my oil and filter @ 500 miles in a walmart parking lot... I bought T6 and a fram filter and a cheap tin foil pan to drain into... had my own wrench. Easy as pie to do and haven't had one problem with the engine/transmission now for 40,000 miles.

Oil will be fine when you get home change it.
Short shift the bike when leaving lights and going up hill drop down a gear if its that step listen to the motor and you'll be fine.

Assuming that the dealer wasn't starting it up daily to move it in and outdoors (as some I've seen do), and the motor hasn't been fired up repeatedly, then break in happens in the first 20-50 miles. Less if you do it right. If the motor has been fired up daily or weekly since '11, you are SOL for breakin. It's already done, and probably not very well (blowby)

Breakin- Couple minutes to warm things up taking it easy, then 60% throttle acceleration in 3rd gear, and then let it hard decel in 3rd gear. Hard accel and hard decel. Do this 3-5 times. Shut motor off for 15 minutes. Do it again... shut off for 15 minutes, and one more time and 80-100 percent throttle. Bam, your rings are now fully seated/sealed properly. Ring break in happens in the first 20-50 miles no matter what, so do it right to get the best seal. After that, it is what it is, and nothing is changing that except new rings and a new hone job on the cylinder walls.

Final note: Be sure to dump the oil at the end of the above break in procedure. (yup, at 20-50 miles)

Thanks for the tips all, it's new off the floor and was not run but I believe they performed a road test on it today so I may be out of moto tune method. Will see what I got when I get there in the A.M. Thanks again for the replies...
