Default Vision windshield worm gear lubrication

Working on the VV installing clear lens and found SEVERAL little loose ends that really bug me from production line. Won't go into the details just to complain but this prompted me to start looking around and I noticed the worm drive gear for the windshield was bone dry as were the two sliding guide bars. Ok so maybe I been working around aviation maintenance too long but worm gear, screw jacks, etc always have plenty of grease of some type. I would think in this case lithium would work well. Any inputs or thoughts as I am about to close this back up. Thanks in advance, will post the things I found undone in a separate thread after I take pics of the new look. Still completely happy with my VV!

Went with Lithium, heres a pick of the gear. Kinda shocked no lube.

Of coarse you know adding great means the gear will pick up dirt.
That will not be good. I have never looked but up on the motor isn't there plastic that the gear runs threw. I know the arms have bronze bushing to keep it moving and if I remember plastic washer to re vent binding.
I have never really looked but I would think our motor is the same as a car window motor.
In the last couple years i have not read of any motor burning out.

Good points VJ but that is why I suggested lithium and not standard grease. Specifically for exposed surfaces and yes, the two upper bushings should be fine but to me (again, in avaition no screwjack is ungreased) a worm gear needs lubrication or it puts undue stress on the electric motor. I am going to inspect it for contaminants in a couple months and see what it looks like, for now, I think it will be better off. Thanks for the thoughts!

Since you have it all apart, can you tell me if there is any way to adjust the windshield mounting brackets? My frame is not squarely mounted. When the windshield is lowered to the point where the widest part of the shield is even with the front trim piece on the left side, it is about 1/2 inch off on the other side.
I think I have read on one of these forums where someone else had the same problem but I can't remember where or if there was a solution.

I haven't heard any reports of this but the system is pretty simple. Two hinge points that are hard mounted and the drive assembly. There are two rubber mounts behind each mirror, lift up on the windshield access panel there and that will get you view of the drive gear to inspect for full even movement and lube if you want. I had read about some rachet from dry guide pins some time ago. My guess is when your shield was mounted they may have misaligned the shield as they tightened the screws down. Loosen these and adjust snugging screws back down not tightening until your level. Torque is 36 inch pounds. If your going to do this, witchdocters put a black screw kit together if you don't like the chrome. http://buywitchdoctors.com/p/1890/vi...-screw-sc-529/

Thanks for the reply. I'll check the frame mounting bolts and see if they can be adjusted. The windshield is straight with the frame. I already checked that. If you look closely at mine, you can actually see where the frame (that the windshield mounts too) is not level.

Should be two bolts holding lower screen mount to motor assembly once you take the hex bolt out and not exactly sure as to the access but 4 bolts holding the motor assembly onto the frame assembly. If you havent already, download a service manual from BBob. Diggin deep for this.. hehehe Good luck!
