Default Oil change on vision

I just bought a 2011 vision 8 ball with 4100 miles. I would like to go ahead and change the oil so I know it is fresh. I was wondering what brand and weight everybody is using and also what brand of oil filter.

Thanks

OMG DANO, Don't ask that here!!!! LMAO! You are about to loose the infamous OIL CHANGE THREAD responses... hehehehehe

Im yankin your chain, if there is a topic beat to death it is the oil change thread. What I would suggest until you have time to do your research is pick up a kit from your Vic dealer or check with KATE at Honda East Toledo (Very well respected here on the forums for price and servie). Kit will give you the filter along with the crush washer for your oil plug which if you change every time should not have any issues on down the road. I say should not... Your going to take about 4.5 quarts due to the upgraded tranny and will be good for approximately 5K on it. The VicKit is 20-40, does come in a 6quart around 70.00 but I think Kate has the 4.5 smaller kit with adjusted price. No need to keep spare oil on hand either. They don't leak or use it. I buy the 6qt and 3 kits later I just need the filter and washer.

Hope this helps.... Cursious to see the responses. Also, I would follow anythign Vindex has put up as he probally has the most oil analisys backed up by testing. Good luck

Thanks for the info. I was looking at using my amsoil account and they don't have carry 20-40 so I was wondering if 10-40 will work.

Search the threads for Vindex Oil and see what you come up with. I think he has been playing with Amsoil some and may have some weight input or PM him. Me personnaly, since were at 4.5 quarts vs the old 6, I will not use anything else but 20-40. The old Hammer V92's used to use a larger oil cooler than the Freedom V92's and were having issues getting the oil to proper temp. Then the oil cooler shrunk again (2010 maybe?) and in 2011 we went to 4.5 quarts.
Single crankcase/tranny means they share so changing weight for me is not an option because I don't know what else it will effect and I don't have to change it every 2500 like I do on my TC... lol...

I do know this, Lloyds Motor Works may not be the only wrench in town but I know I don't know enough in some areas or don't want to spend the time experimenting that I go with what he says. here is a link to his tech section and his answer is stick with 20-40. Hope this helps ya bro...

I hate saying anything in these threads But I can't keep my finger off the keyboard....so here goes.
I have been using Amsoil 10W40 in all my bikes right after the first 500 miles.
03 yam venture, it had 36,000 miles on it when I sold it, it didn't burn any oil.
04 Kingpin after breaking the Big Bore (first 500 years) Amsoil 10W40 it had 50,000 on it and didn't burn any oil, clutches didn't slip either.
08 Vision when I bought it, it had 12400 miles on it, I changed the oil to Amsoil 10W40, it doen't burn any oil either and the clutches don't slip...26,000 miles on it. It runs great no problems. I'm done, do what you want.

My semi-local dealer, the place I bought my bike, sells 6 quart kits for about the same price as the 4.5 quart kit from that Toledo vendor if you include shipping costs. I like the idea of buying locally so I will be dealing with them. I am considering using the after-market filter that just gets cleaned each time rather than being a throw away part. That means I will only need to buy the new oil and the crush washer which might give me an even better value.
I see no reason to use anything other than 20W40 oil rated at JASO MA or better and the Vic oil fills that bill. It is not the only one though so I will be checking the other similarly rated oils.
