Default Trouble with oil change

So, it is time to do my first oil change on my XCT and I am having no luck getting the drain plug out. The bike was a demo and the dealership did a change just before I got the bike and at the 500 mile break in recommendation. I'm calling the dealer tomorrow but to get there requires a loss of time at work or hoping to get a spot on the odd Saturday. It took more then the 15ft lbs and I got nothing.

Ideas?

It may take more than 15 foot pounds to get it out, just ensure you have a GOOD hex in it, good solid leverage and crank it counter clockwise. Should hear a nice pop when it breakes loose because the crush gasket does its job. Number one complaint on oil plugs loosening up after service I am told is DIY that reuse the old gasket like our cars. ensure you ALWAYS toss that old gasket.

also make sure the engine is warm it will sometime help loosen the bolt

Warm engine... and you can use a propane torch to heat the bolt a bit also. Make sure it is the correct bolt... and there doesn't need to be that much torque on it when the copper crush washer is used... copper is a soft metal and crushes very easily and makes for a great seal.

+1 on that. Have not had a single leaker nor problem removing when torqued

Do Not Use Heat. Heat will make the metal expand.
If you can't get it loose ride to dealer and ask them to loosen it. That way if there is a problem its theres for over tightening it.

+1 on warming the bike up. It also helps the oil flow more easily so you won't have to wait quite as long

Also, I'm not saying this to be snarky or anything. I've been in the auto service biz for a long time, and I still find myself making this mistake. Make sure you're not accidentally turning the plug the wrong direction. Righty tight-lefty loosey only works when the bolt-head is facing you. lol maybe I'm not that good a grease monkey if my brain doesn't automatically compensate for the plug being upside down from my orientation.

get the moter hot as some have said. it should be for a change anyway. don't heat the plug, it will expand it making it tighter, that only works for nuts on the outside of a bolt.

I picked up a hex socket today to try. I was using a good quality key with a socket and extension on the end and had at least a 30* deflection on the key arm and nothing.

I also can get lefty/righty turned around at times. After an oops that cost many hours I visualize and then tripple check.

We'll see what I can do tonight with better tool. The dealership says that they have had trouble cracking them loose at times.

One thing that works for me when it is real tight like that is so put the hex key in and hit the handle with a rubber mallet carefully to get it started. Use care not to strip the bolt. Make sure the key fits tight.
