Default XC Oil & Filter

I would like to change to synthetic oil after break-in on my 2012 XC. Also, I think Walmart has an excellent oil filter for motorcycles, much cheaper than Vic filter. Anyone try synthetic oil an an non-OEM filter?

I uses synthetic oil and non OEM filters on my previous bikes (HD's, and Honda's)

Thanks a bunch!!

There's a lot of info out there on this subject. Don't know why it's not coming up for your searches but it's there. Wix makes a really good oil filter. Not sure if Walmart has it but I know O' Reilly's does and Advanced Auto if you have those stores. O Reilly's by me keeps them in the back so you have to ask for them vs just pick off the shelf. I switched mine to Full Sythnetic right after the break in oil was dropped. I was using Mobil 1 10W40 Motorcycle Racing oil since that most closely matched Vic's viscosity requirements vs 20W50. Thicker isn't necessarily better so don't buy into that hype. I have recently switch to Mobil 1 5W40 Turbo Diesel Oil and the K & P cleanable oil filter and I'm happy with that combo so far. I can get the oil at Walmart or O Reilly's and I don't need to buy the oil filter anymore. AMSOIL beekens, flame away!!!!

I see they now have 10w/40w Valvoline dino oil for bikes and the 10w/40w Synth oil for bikes available at Autozone and Walmart. I figure I'll put in 2 quarts synth and the rest dino with the Valvoline. I think I'll use the Supertech filter again. Seems to work fine so far. Might look for a wix though...

Here's a list plagiarized from another forum.

Some numbers for you. This list comes from other sites, but all that I have tried have fit...

These Oil Filters have 20 x 1.5mm threads, 14 psi by-pass valve, anti-drain back valve, 2.3" O.D. gasket 2.5" to 3.5" long. If you have the room, the longer filters are recommended.

It won't let me change it so I just quoted it to change it. Thanks for catching the mistake.

I changed my oil in my 08 Vegas to Amsoil 10w40 and Supertech ST7317 oil filter. So far all is well. I know you're looking for XR experience, but the motors are almost the same. I'll post again if I have any trouble.
