Default Question about Demo Days discount

Today I called the Arlen Ness dealership in Dublin, CA about a Demo Days event they have coming up and I asked the salesman if they were offering $1,000 off the price of a new Victory CCT if it was purchased the day of the Demo ride. He said no, but that they were offering a certificate worth $1,000 off of accessories purchased. Considering that the CCT comes pretty much fully loaded and I'm really not too interested in any of the Victory accessories I would rather have $1,000 off of the asking price instead. Is this typical or were any of you who bought during Demo Days given $1,000 off of the asking price?

It's $1000 off sticker. Dealers got smart and decided to put a twist on it so they can move more parts. Put your foot down, tell 'em it's $1000 off sticker or no deal, and you will it have it your way.

Please add your bike's year and model to your signature. Here's why.

Not satisfied with the response I got from Arlen Ness I called around to other dealers having demo days inquiring about discounts. One said they were offering a $500 "rebate" while another told me they would offer the $1,000 off MSRP. So with this ammo in hand I called back the salesman at Arlen Ness (who happens to be much closer to where I live) and said if they couldn't match the $1,000 off offer I would go elsewhere. He said "officially" he could only say they were offering the $1,000 accessory discount, but to come in anyway and he would "make it work". So I guess I'll give them a try and if they don't come across with $1,000 off MSRP then I walk away and go elsewhere.

Yeah, they should come down, but in all seriousness, I could come up with $1k of stuff to add on any bike without blinking. Adding XM radio will get you almost there. Then add an exhaust system, and bag liners, and...........

Congrats either way

Good idea. Once you're there and they can smell the money, they will be flexible as ballerinas.

The $1000 Demo Ride coupon is for accessories that Polaris re-imburses the dealer for. The dealer always has the choice to discount from MSRP. I was looking at a 2011 Vision with rediculous MSRP. With Polaris $2500 rebate and dealer discount, it was down to $18500. Then, I saw the same thing at another dealer on Craigslist for $17,400. The Cross Country Tour may have extra demand, but there aren't many riders that can drop 20+K on a bike.

Do your homework to understand what the TRUE market value is of the bike you want. Negotiate with the dealership to come as close to that figure as possible. If the bike RETAILS for $20K, you can likely find it available from dealers across the country for $18K. Some dealers will use the $1K incentive as "part" of the discount needed for them to be competitive with those other dealers. Even if you have no intention of traveling to buy a bike, you should NEVER let your local dealer know that. Rather, get them to "compete" with the other dealers and then spend money locally for only slightly more than you would if you had traveled. In the end, the $1K discount won't be as important to you as it is now...because you will get a larger discount in the long run.

I speak from experience.
