Default Stage 1 or not?

I picked up my new 2012 Cross Roads Classic LE last Tuesday. This is my 32nd motorcycle I have purchased in the last 44 years. 9 different brands, my 2nd Victory, first one a 2002 Touring Cruiser. I sold my 2010 Electra Glide last Saturday. I love the bike so far, 420 miles. Now to my point. The dealer is doing the 500 mile service Monday, do I get the Stage 1 installed for $699.00? I do not like load pipes, but this XR is a little quiet. The dealer claims 4 mpg incease in gas mileage. Is this exhaust street legal? I also am going to try to get the options on the speedometer/odometer thrown in.

I got the stage 1 on mine as part of the deal. The stage 1 is still quiet, definitely nothing that would cause any issues with noise ordinances. I'm not sure how anyone looking at it would know it wasn't stock. I'm happy with the mpg I'm getting but I wouldn't buy off on it making 4 mpg difference.

Overall, I'm happy with it.

I got the stage 1 and feel it was worth it. Now I did get it as part of a $1000 dollar promotion so I didn't pay for it, which made it easier to say yes. I do like the sound and it does seem to pull better than stock demo rides.

Stage 1 is great if you want nice sound but not obnoxious noise. + 1 on the hype of gaining 4 mpg. It will help the bike breath and run a little better but I wouldn't expect to see any mileage increase. I really like my stage 1.

You can keep an eye on the forum classified's and ebay for when a used set of stage 1 muffs come up for sale for $200 or so and then get the flash done for another couple hundred if you aren't in a hurry and keep this cost down a bit.

If it were me, and it's not, I would steer clear of any Victory stage one stuff. You can do way better for less money... and actually gain performance as well as some sound. Do your research, what's the hurry? It would suck to go rushing into some regrets, wouldn't it?

You may do better performance wise, but I'm not sure where one would get it any cheaper.

BTW, I agree that Vic's price is ridiculous for a changing an air-cleaner, a baffle, and loading a software FI map, but it does make a nice visceral improvement that isn't obnoxious nor will it garner any unwanted law enforcement attention.

I didn't get the OP's original comment about not liking the pipes. Did he not like the stock because they are too quiet or does not like the way they look on the bike or what? Anyway, I haven't seen too many for the Cross bikes at present. I've seen the results of the "Big Honkers" and I am not at all impressed. They are obnoxious to the rider and to everyone anywhere near them and they leave soot all over the back portion of the pipes.

Yeah... the Stage 1 Vic stuff does nothing for performance and the bike still sounds like a Singer sewing machine... so what exactly did you get for your money again????

What I'm saying is that if you're gonna spend money, GET SOMETHING IN RETURN. If you just want a little more sound, a freakin' drill bit only a couple bucks.

I just slipped set of D&D pipes on my CCT. Runs good without the stage 1 flash . I think this week I will have the flash and the air cleaner done this week. Deep sound with the D&D.
