Default Brake light loading-how much

I already have a third brake light above stock that has 7 LED's in it. This is fed directly off of the brake light wire that runs under the seat which feeds the stock XC brake light. I want to add additional lights back there-looking at Hyperlites Flashing 8 LED universal kit (http://www.hyperlites.com/moddf.html).

I am wondering about how much electrical load you can put on that line that feeds the rear brake light. The LED control module for Victory has some kind of load limit, probably pretty low since the rear lights are LED, and I do not want to put too much on that wire. The wire appears to be 20/22AWG and I do not want to overload it.

Has anyone had any issues with wire problems back there due to overloading?

Thanks.

I don't think you will have a problem. As noted in my signature, I have the Custom Dynamics brake/ tail light license frame and 8 LED Hyper-Lites(brake only). And about 3 months ago added the Kuryakyn Sabertooth lights. No blown fuses and no indication of overheating of the brake wires in the wire loom that feeds the rear tail light area.

rdeerx;
Sabertooth lights: first I had heard of those. They are really sharp looking. As far as the wires going to the saddlebags to power them. How are they routed and are there quick connects to remove bags? It says "plug n play" to install them, what does that really mean?

Thanks.

I haven't purchased the Sabertooth lights, but I'm thinking about it. In any case, Witchdoctors has a nice video on the install, here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8mt0dEqhwRc .

Re wire sizes, I think Vic doesn't care much about them. Have you ever looked at the wires that power the dash outlet, for instance? Tiny, and that thing's fused for 20 amps.

Cheers,

Bill P.

The Sabertooths have a male/female plug that plugs into the trunk plug under the left side cover. For those that have a trunk, that lighting is retained. Off that are two leads, one for the left and right Sabertooth lights. they are plug and play with connectors that run to the bags and Sabertooth lights. Watch the Witch Doctors video, that pretty much describes it all.

I watched the video after the other post. Really good video and pretty easy install. No one has the black ones in stock. I will probably go with hyper lites.
Thanks.

To my knowledge, Kuryakyn makes them in chrome only. Witchdoctors was painting them black for resale.

rdeerx;
-Your signature lists Kury #4178 Windshield Bag. I have the same bag installed. How did you attach it? Any pics?
-You also list SRVT 2+ handlebars. SRVT? I do not believe I have heard of those. I am assuming 2+ means 2 inch extensions toward the rider.

The windshield bag has a firm plastic backing. I took out the top 2 windshield screws, loosened the bottom 2. Slide it between the windshield and black windshield brackets, use a awl or center punch and locate the 2 top holes, take out and drill it out. Put it back on and tighten down the windshield screws.
SRVT +2 bars were produced by Santa Rosa V-twin. I don't believe they make them anymore. Victory and some other after market suppliers make them now.
